Soul Eater is a Japanese action, adventure and supernatural Japanese manga series both written and illustrated by nonne other than the brilliant mind of Atsushi Okubo, who once worked as an assistant for Rando Ayamine who both worked on the sensationally epic [Getbackers].
The manga was originally published by Square Enix, a well-renowned Japanese game developer who is known worldwide for their RPG games like Final Fantasy or Dragon Quest.
It made its debut in the Gangan Powered comics as a one-shot back in 2004.
The manga ran its full course from May 2004 to August 2013 with 25 adrenaline-packed volumes.
It wasn't long after Studio Bones decided to develop the anime adaptation of Soul Eater with the help of Takuya Igarashi whose known famous works include [Star Driver], [Ouran High School Host Club] and [Sailor Moon].
Soul Eater made its premiere on the big screens last April 2008 which ended with 51 jaw-dropping episodes last March 2009. Soul Eater was broadcasted on TV Tokyo and AT-X.



PLOT:

Soul Eater is set in the fictional Death City which is located in Nevada, United States.
Death Weapon Meister Academy (DWMA) is a technical school run by the all-powerful Shinigami (translated as Grimreaper) who trains humans with the ability to transform their body or just parts of their body into weapons, as well as the human beings who wield them, later known as “meisters”.
The story revolves around 3 meisters and their partner weapons as they help their partners into becoming the next “Death Scythe”, the highest title a weapon could be given and the opportunity to become the Shinigami's weapon in his fights.
In order to do so, they must first defeat and absorb the souls of 99 evil humans turned monsters and the soul of a witch.
Besides taking the time to gather the necessary souls for becoming a Death Scythe, Maka Albarn and her scythe partner Soul Eater; the aspiring assassin Black Star and his capable partner, Tsubaki Nakatsuka; and Death the Kid, the Shinigami's son and his pistol partners Liz and Patty Thompson, defend Death City from some of the most powerful creatures and supernatural beings while still attending school and trying to become stronger.



CHARACTERS:

Maka Albarn is the daughter of the infamous Spirit, Shinigami's resident Death Scythe at DWMA. Despite her rather mature and calm demeanor, he can sometimes become passionate in her goals of making Soul Eater into a death scythe that will surpass even her own father. Due to her strong sense of justice, she is oftentimes torn in situations where she has to decide whether to put her missions first or save her friends, almost always which she decides to do the latter.


Soul Eater Evans is Maka's demon scythe partner. Despite his rather pretty laid-back and nonchalant personality, he oftentimes go out of his way trying to save his friends especially Maka. Although he may seen to be almost always bickering with Maka, but he is fiercely loyal to her and even would risk his life for her. He uses his innate talent as a pianist to synchronize better with Maka forging a more-powerful attack.


Black Star is the aspiring ninja assassin who is known for his rather flashy entrance rather than sneaking up on his opponents which should be expected normally from an assassin. Despite his rather exceedingly arrogant and loud-mouthed personality, Black Star is actually one of the more promising meisters at DWMA together with Maka and Death the Kid. He is actually one of the last remaining survivors of the Star Clan, an infamous family of ninja assassins.


Tsubaki Nakatsukasa is Black Star's weapon partner. She is later classified by DWMA as a “shadow” weapon with the ability to transform into a variety of ninja weapons including a kusarigama, a shuriken, a ninjato and even a smoke bomb. Tsubaki is the perfect partner for Black Star with her soothing personality to counterbalance his constant arrogance and showboating. She later unravels her most powerful form, the “Uncanny Sword” after absorbing the soul of her corrupted brother Masamune.


Death the Kid is literally the son of Death, the Grim Reaper. As an inheritor of the mysterious Madness of Order, Kid suffers from a crippling obsessive-compulsive disorder to the point where he will break down in the middle of a battle over something so simple like a crooked haircut. Despite his rather obvious flaws in his personality, it doesnt change the fact that he may very well be the most powerful meister at DWMA only second to his father, given the right circumstances.


Liz and Patty Thompson are the twin pistol partners of Death the Kid. Liz is the cynical young woman who finds Kid's “situation” as rather annoying while Patty is the older, yet childish girl who may not be the most intelligent person at DWMA but is able to remain cheerful in whatever situation she finds herself. They both take on the form of semi-automatic twin pistols who uses Kid's compressed wavelenght as bullets.



UPDATE:

Soul Eater has been awarded several awards including making it to the Top 10 Anime Shows in the Los Angeles Times.
A spin-off series entitled [Soul Eater Not!] has been released last April 2014 which shortly ended on July 2014 of the same year with 12 successful episodes.
Soul Eater Not! follows the events prior to the events of the manga of the same title and after the events of the original [Soul Eater].
On another note, several video games has been released with the premise following the events that happened in the original Soul Eater.


Other similar titles to [Soul Eater] include [Bleach], [D. Gray Man], and [Death Note] all of which pertains to the concept of deathreapers.
