Ouran High School Host Club

Ouran High School Host Club is a manga created by Bisco Hatori. It was published in LaLa magazine starting on September 2002 and ended on November 2010. It was then compiled into tankoban volumes which were released starting August 5, 2003 and ending on April 5, 2011. The anime adaptation was produced by Bones, written by Yoji Enokido and directed by Takuya Igarashi. It aired on Nippon Television starting April 5, 2006 and ended on September 26, 2006 on the Nippon Television network. The art director and character designer for the anime adaptation is Kumiko Takahashi.

Ouran High School Host Club Plot:

The Ouran Academy is an elitist school that educates the children of the incredibly wealthy. A middle-class girl, Haruhi Fujioka, lands a scholarship in the prestigious school being a very rare breed in the school to the point of fascination. When looking for a place to study, she enters the Third Music Room where the Ouran Academy Host Club performs their club activities. The Ouran Academy Host Club composes of six extremely good looking male students who host a café to entertain women. During her encounter with the Ouran Academy Host Club, Haruhi accidently breaks an expensive antique vase costing ¥8 million. To pay off the vase, she agrees to work in the host club and do errands. Haruhi is often mistaken as a boy because of her short hair and posture and is quickly promoted to a full-host mistaking her as a male student and after the club members realize Haruhi’s talent for hosting. As the series goes on, the members discover her gender one by one but keep it to themselves. Haruhi also introduces the club members to middle-class products like instant coffee which they become addicted to at one point.

Ouran High School Host Club Characters:

Fujioka Haruhi – Haruhi is a bright student who comes from a middle-class family. She lands a scholarship to attend the prestigious Ouran Academy based on her entrance exam results. The condition for her to keep her scholarship is to rank first in her class making her very serious when it comes to her studies. She is stuck as an errand boy and eventually a host for the Ouran Academy Host Club to pay for an ¥8 million vase she knocked over.

Ootori Kyoya – Kyoya is one of the co-founder of the Ouran Host Club and is the brains behind the operation. His best friend is the President of the host club, Tamaki Suoh, and actually takes the role of president because of his ability to manipulate and manage any sort of situation.

René Tamaki Richard de Grantaine – Tamaki (René Tamaki Richard de Grantaine Suoh) is the president of the Ouran Host Club and the son of the chairman of Ouran Academy. He’s the co-founder of the Ouran Host Club and is best friends with Kyoya Ootori. He has blonde hair because he is half French.

Kaoru Hitachiin – Kaoru is the younger of the twins, is classmates with his older twin, Hikaru. He is a host of the Ouran Host Club and is considered to be the more mature of the twins.

Hitachiin Hikaru – Hikaru is the older of the twins and a member of the Ouran Host Club. Contrary to common belief, he is actually the less mature of the two and doesn’t do well dealing with emotions.

Haninozuka Mitsukuni – Honey is actually one of the older hosts of the Ouran Host Club but actually looks like an elementary student. His customers love him for being incredibly cute and childlike. Honey may be petite but he’s a martial arts champion.

Morinozuka Takashi – Mori is the second eldest member of the Ouran Host Club and is portrayed as the strong and silent type. He constantly follows Honey as his family has been serving Honey’s family for generations before marriage turned them into relatives. He is loyal to his cousin, Honey, and is also a karate and kendo master.
