The Yari is a Japanese spear, specifically a straight-headed spear. They are characterized by a straight blade, anywhere from several centimeters to 3 feet or more in length. A wide variety of blade styles have appeared throughout history; some are flat-bladed, while others have specialize in penetration of armor and lack a sharp edge. Some blades are even forked, with perpendicular edges, or crescent moon-shaped. Unlike the naginata, the yari has a straight edge rather than a curved one.
