Plot:
Tsuritama is a story of one Yuki Sanada, a seemingly average high school student who apparently lives with his grandmother.
Since her grandmother’s work requires somewhat frequent relocations, Yuki has had several problems with establishing any friendships; much less the social skills to even initiate one.
Growing up has been hard for Yuki and he has been having quite a hard time making friends thanks to his rather abnormally poor communication skills.
Whenever put on the spot or when anxious, he freezes in place, unable to breathe and feels like drowning.
Shortly arriving on Enoshima, his grandmother’s most recent sanctioned work base, a zealous transfer student, Haru, appears on their doorstep wielding a water gun and a fish bowl on top of his head claiming himself to be an alien.
Yuki later finds himself on a fishing trip to a tiny island with three other boys he barely knows: Haru, who claims to be an alien, Natumi Usami, a secluded young fisherman who earned the nickname as the “The Fishing Prince” and Akira, the mysterious Indian man who watches Haru from a distance with his pet duck.
Unlike the weird and unusual “friendly” encounters he had in the past, fishing might just be what Yuki needs to start charting the unfamiliar waters of personal connections and friendship.
They will find lots of different fish stories, from the “ones that got away” even to the “best catches ever”, but whichever way the currents of this so-called adventure take them, for four young men, this trip may just be the biggest adventure and fun they've had in their life, even get a chance to save the world or two.
Characters:
Yuki Sanada is the socially-challenged main protagonist of the series. When afraid or nervous, he freezes in place, unable to breathe and feels like drowning. Due to his grandmother’s work, he tends to move from place to place not giving even the slightest chance of making friends.
Haru is the cheerful and charismatic transfer student at Enoshima High. He first introduces himself as an “alien” although others just take them as a joke. On several occasions, it has hinted that he may, just maybe, be the alien just like he claims to be.
Natuski Usami is a born and raised Enoshima natice who doesn’t play well with other people. His passion lies in fishing, even entering its local tournaments where he earned the nickname as the “Fishing Prince”.
Akira Agarkar Yamada is the mysterious Indian man who keeps watching Haru from a distance with his pet duck Tapioca. Turns out, he is actually a spy from the a mysterious organization called the “DUCK” (short for Defensive Universal Confidential Keepers).
