Tales of Vesperia is a role-playing video game developed by Namco Bandai Games.
Tales of Vesperia served as the tenth main installment of the big-hit “Tales” franchise.
Tales of Vesperia was developed for the Xbox 360 which was later adapted for the PlayStation 3.
Due to popular demand, Production I.G. developed the animated film entitled “Tales of Vesperia: The First Strike”.
Tales of Vesperia is directed by none other than Kanta Kamei and written by Reiko Yoshida, the same person who has worked on Angelic Layer, Blood+, Getbackers and even Major.
Tales of Vesperia: First Strike was released on October 2009 in Japan grossing to a grand total of $941, 610.
PLOT:
Tales of Vesperia is set in a fictional world where mankind is in an age of discovery and prosperity.
Due to incessant attacks by monsters, mankind has managed to utilize the power of a powerful substance called the “Aer” to create barriers around towns.
One day, in a forest near the town of Shizontania, Yuri Lowell and Flynn Scifo, two peculiar knights who have recently just joined the Niren Corps, are sent to investigate an abnormal gushing of aer just outside the town.
Accompanying them are Hisca and Chastel, senior knight and fellow Corps members.
CHARACTERS:
Yuri Lowell is one of the main protagonists in Tales of Vesperia. Yuri is born and raised in the Lower Quarter of the Imperial Capital, Zaphias. He joined the Imperial Knights to uphold law and justice and help the weak. He later leaves the Imperial Knights due to his contempt for the Empire’s mistreatment of its lower citizens. He is more than willing to help those in need, even going so far as taking even the most extreme of measures to do so. He has rather adopted a vigilante-like attitude which is why he finds himself in rather peculiar and antagonizing situations. He is an expert fighter, extremely capable of wielding swords and axes
Flynn Scifo is Yuri’s childhood friend. He also joined the Imperial Knights around the same time as Yuri in hopes of “making a difference” in the world. Unlike Yuri, Flynn stuck with the Imperial Knights, making a name for himself performing notable achievements. Flynn is the youngest in the Imperial Knights to have received the title of “captain”. Quite similar to Yuri, Flynn also has a strong sense of justice and responsibility although unlike Yuri, Flynn tries to solve matters through peaceful politics rather than forceful rebellion.
UPDATE:
Tales of Vesperia: The First Strike served as the prequel to Namco’s role playing game “Tales of Vesperia”.
It is the first animated film in the Tales series. Overall, it has received positive reviews for both fans and non-fans of the game.
Rebecca Silverman of the Anime New Network had this to say “…for those who enjoy a heroic fantasy tale, this is one worth checking out”.
This may be the first animated film in the Tales series, but it will not be the last. From the very same Tales series, you could include Tales of Phantasia, Tales of Eternia, Tales of Symphonia, and Tales of Abyss in your list some of the anime television series that are quite and without a doubt similar to Tales of Vesperia.
