Ethan is the male player character as well as the main character in the Johto/Gen II games and their remakes. Originally, Ethan did not have an official name, so many fans referred to him as Gold until HGSS came out and gave him one. He is childhood friends with Lyra, and Silver's rival.
His journey as a trainer starts out in Newbark Town, when Professor Elm asks him to do him a favor and deliver an egg.
In Pokemon Masters, Ethan is described as a reliable veteran trainer who enjoys exploring and traveling through mountains.
