General Information

Dog Days (Japanese: ドッグデイズ) is a Japanese fantasy anime television series by Project DD.
The original creator and the man behind the masterpiece is Masaki Tsuzuki.
Dog Days has themes of action, adventure, fantasy, romance and even tidbits of ecchi.

Seven Arcs published Dog Days which premiered on Tokyo MX, TVS and MBS on January 2011.
Dog Days ended with 13 otherworldly adventure episodes on June 2011.
A light novel and manga adaptation were also published.

Plot:

In the fictitious land of Flonyard, the Republic of Biscotti is faces predicament by an invasion by the Galette Leo Knights is on the verge of defeat.
Facing potential defeat, Princess Millhiore decided to summon a hero from another country to save her kingdom from the massive army of the Lion Kingdom.
That’s where Izumi Shinku comes in, a cheerful and athletic half-Japanese, half-Cornish boy.
He spent most of his normal everyday life doing gymnastics and studying at Kinokawa International School until the day he gets summoned to fight for the dog-like princess of the Biscotti Republic, Princess Millhiore, against the feline-like Gallete Knights of the Lion Kingdom.


After responding to Princess Millhiore’s plea, he receives the sacred weapon Palladion and is appointed as the Hero of the Biscotti Republic.
Thrown into a war that is unlike the ones in Earth, he later learns that the war is fashioned similarly after a sports competition where they follow a special kind of rules and there are no casualties.
The winning faction gets to claim a large sum of money from the opposing side.
He later learns that when a hero is summoned, they are unable to return to where they came from.
The scientists promise to return him back in time to make good on his promise to a friend back on Japan; meanwhile he continues his duty as the Hero of Biscotti Republic till then.


Characters:

Shinku Izumi is the 13-year old half-Japanese and half-Brittish boy from Cornwall. He is summoned into the alternate world of Flonyard by Princess Millhiore to become the Biscotti Republic’s hero.


Millhiore Firianno Biscotti is the young dog-like princess of the Biscotti Republic. Fearing defeat for his kingdom, he summons Shinku from another world to help save her kingdom from the Gallete Knights.


Leonmichelli Galletes des Rois is the young and bright princess of the Gallete Lion Kingdom. She used to be Millhiore’s childhood friend.

Update:

A sequel to the original anime series premiered across Japanese TV networks on July 2012.
It was directed by Junji Nishimura and scheduled for 13 episodes which ended its run on September 2012.
The 4-chapter light novel adaptation by Masaki Tsuzuki was published in Kadokawa Shoten’s Newtype magazine.
The manga adaptation on the other hand was serialized in Kadokawa Shoten’s Newtype, Comptiq and Comp Ace magazine since May 2011.


Dog Days is an anime show just like Zero no Tsukaima, Fate/Stay Night, Dual Parallel Trouble Adventure, Fushigi Yuugi, Kyo Kara Maoh, Magic Knight Rayearth, MaR and Amatsuki where it involves heroes or people summoned to another world to save the day.
