Daisuke Aramaki (荒巻大輔, Aramaki Daisuke) is head of Public Security Section 9.
In Stand Alone Complex, Lieutenant Colonel Aramaki is a strict boss, and is referred to by others in Section 9 as the "old chimp" (undoubtedly in light of the fact that in the first manga he was drawn with a face that gave off an impression of being half monkey, half man). Indeed along these lines, he is furiously faithful to the parts of Section 9, and frequently puts his profession at stake to guarantee the survival of whatever remains of his group.
In second GIG, Aramaki utilizes his political associations and haggling with the new leader to get Section 9 restored.
It is uncovered in Mamoru Oshii's Ghost In The Shell that Aramaki, that together with Togusa, they are the main parts of Section 9 (aside from cyberbrain).
In the Stand Alone Complex Visual Book written by Hobby Japan, Aramaki's hair was jabbed at for fun only in one funny cartoon when Batou makes a few remarks about it. Aramaki lifts his hair to uncover his metallic parts, potentially for his cyberbrain. This occurrence unsettled Batou signifigantly.
Close to the end of Ghost in the Shell: S.a.c. second GIG, Aramaki's missing sibling, Yousuke Aramaki, approaches Kuze and asks him what he expects to do with the outcasts. He was most recently seen in the last episode helping the evacuees empty the Dejima span by means of little pontoons.
The Solid State Society film uncovers that he was alienated from his guide Colonel Tonoda whom he served to put in jail (like his character does sometime during the first GITS manga) at some point before the SAC series started, and that he was really hitched at one point.
Aramaki's physical appearance looks very nearly like that of the character "Dusty the casket producer" in the 1968 Spaghetti Western: If You Meet Sartana Pray for Your Death.
The Solid State Society movie reveals that he was estranged from his mentor Colonel Tonoda whom he helped to put in prison (like his character does in the course of the original GITS manga) sometime before the SAC series began, and that he was actually married at one point.
