Vampire Knight

Vampire Knight is a Japanese shoujo manga series written by none other than Matsuri Hino, famous for his exceptional works in MeriPuri and Toraware No Mi No Ue.
Vampire Knight falls under the themes of school story, romance, supernatural, action and even tragedy.
Vampire Knight started serialization in Hakusensha’s LaLa magazine since November 2004.
As of May 2013, 19 tankobon volumes have been published under the name of Vampire Knight.
It wasn’t long after did Studio DEEN hopped on the chance to produce the anime adaptation of Vampire Knight together with Kiyoko Sayama as its lead director.
Vampire Knight has broadcasted 13 pure good action episodes as of April 2008 to June 2008 of the same year.

PLOT:

Vampire Knight follows Cross Yuuki, a female student of the prestigious Cross Academy, an elite boarding school famous for its two separate, isolated classes: Day and Night Classes.
Yuuki’s earliest memory is of a stormy night in winter where she was attacked by a rogue vampire…and then rescued by another.
Ten years have passed and Yuuki has grown to be the prefects of the academy together with her closest childhood friend, Zero Kiryuu.
Together, they keep the order in the school between students as classes rotate in the evenings.
The Night Class is full of utterly gorgeous elites which can prove to be rather difficult for Yuuki and Zero, especially when they are actually vampires.
Yuuki and Zero act as guardians, protecting the secrets of the Night Class and the safety of the ignorant Day Class students.
Yuuki takes her duty seriously especially when Kaname, the same vampire who saved her ten years ago from a fellow vampire.
Albeit Yuuki’s love for the undead, Zero’s unwavering hatred for the creatures that destroyed everything he held dear grows ever stronger.
In a world filled with secrets, nothing is as it seems. This coexisting arrangement seems all well and good, but have the vampires truly renounced their murderous ways, or is there a darker truth behind their actions?

CHARACTERS:

Yuuki Cross is the adopted daughter of the current Headmaster of Cross Academy, Kaien Cross. She was attacked by a rogue vampire when she was just a wee child only to be saved by a fellow vampire, Kaname Kuran. Turns out, she belonged to long-line of Pureblood family, the Kurans, with their uncanny ability to wield Vampire hunter weapons. She was first introduced as generally kind, caring and cheerful albeit she can be quite naïve and careless at times which worries Zero a lot. She now acts as a guardian protecting the secret of the Night Class who turns out to be an elite group of vampires led by Kaname. She wields the Artemis Rod, an anti-vampire weapon handed to her by her adoptive father.

Zero Kiryuu is Yuuki’s closest friend and a fellow Guardian at Cross Academy. When he was young, he was attacked and bitten by a Pureblood vampire who in turn murdered and massacred his parents which would explain his brooding anger for all things vampire. Zero holds a deep hatred for vampires especially towards Kaname Kuran who strongly distrusts him. Zero is deeply in love with Yuuki. He wields the Bloody Rose, an anti-vampire gun.

Kaname Kuran is a Pureblood Vampire who saved Yuuki from a rouge vampire when she was five years old. He worked together with Kaien Cross to promote a more peaceful co-existence between humans and vampires and becoming part of the Night Class and keeping its students in check. It was later revealed that he is actually one of the originalvampires to have founded the elite Kuran family and was supposed to marry Yuuki in hopes of keeping their bloodline. He manages to destroy the entire Vampire Council which attacked the school, fearing the return of the Kuran family as the legitimate rulers of the Vampire society.

UPDATE:

Studio Deen has been working with Kiyoko Sayama on the second season entitled “Vampire Knight Guilty”.
Vampire Knight Gulity premiered on TV Tokyo on October 2008 and scheduled for 13 jaw-dropping episodes.
Vampire Knight Guilty ended on December 2008 and was later licensed by Viz Media for a North American release.

There certainly are numerous anime shows that are quite similar to Vampire Knight. When it comes to the vampire genre, I’d highly recommend checking out Black Blood Brothers, Trinity Blood, Rosario Vampire, Shiki, Hellsing, Hakuoki, Blood+ and Strike the Blood stands out the most, most of which are a mixture of supernatural, romance, vampires, vampires and even more vampires.
