Tsubasa: RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE

Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle is a shounen manga series written by the same manga artist group that brought us Chobits, xxxHolic, Cardcaptor Sakura and Angelic Layer.
Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle was published in Kodansha's Weekly Shounen Magazine since May 2003.
As of October 2009, Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle has released and published 28 tankobon volumes.
Bee Train Studios developed the anime adaptation of Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle with Hiroyuki Kawasaki as the script writer and Koichi Masami & Hiroshi Morioka as its directors.
Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle made its premiere big screen debut last April 2005 on NHK and Animax.
Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle ended with 52 awe-inspiring episodes last November 2006.

PLOT:

Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle follows Syaoran Li, an aspiring archeologist who discovers his childhood friend Sakura, who happens to be the princess of the Clow Kingdom, appear in an excavation site with wings that quickly disperse into countless feathers.
Turns out, each feather holds a memory of Sakura which disperses into different dimensions.
In an attempt to save Sakura and her restore memory, Syaoran seeks help from a dimensional witch, Yuuko.
Yuuko informs Syaoran that if he is determined to restore her memory, he has to travel to different dimensions and alternate realities to collect the feathers that hold a fragment of Sakura's memories.
Accompanying them on the perilous journey is Kurogane, a skilled swordsman who was exiled from his country, and Fye, a powerful magician trying to escape his ruthless king.
With the help of a mysterious and magical creature, Mokona, they set off on an exciting, adventurous and bewildering journey through space and time.

CHARACTERS:

Syaoran Li is the adopted son of the late archeologist Fujitaka. In hopes of keeping his late father's memory, he continued his father's work aspiring to be an archeologist like his late father. He grows a close relationship with Sakura, the princess of Clow Kingdom due to his father's work for the king. After Sakura lost her memories, he was the first one raring to go and help find her memories despite knowing that even though she will regain her memories, she would not remember him prior to the accident.

Sakura is the esteemed princess of Clow Kingdom who later became Syaoran's best friend. An unforseen evil stripped her memories in hopes of stealing her latent magical powers. Her memories are spread across different dimensions in the form of feathers. She was initially confused and constantly tired, but she grows stronger for every feather that they regain.

Kurogane is the rough-mannered ninja from Japan, an alternate universe than the one Syaoran and Sakura is from. Despite being a powerful swordsman himself, he blatantly shows no mercy to anyone he comes across. In hopes of teaching him what strength is, Princess Tomoyo places a curse upon that will decrease his strength for every person that he kills henceforth. Determined to return back to his world from whence he came from, he seeks out the Yuuko the Dimensional Witch where he gives up Ginryu, his sword in exchange for the power to travel through dimensions.

Fai D. Flowright is a powerful magician from the country of Celes. King Ashura went on a killing spree back in the day and Fai was forced to seal him by putting him in everlasting slumber. Unfortunately for him, his magic is never eternal and King Ashura is back. Fai seeks out the help of Yuuko, the Dimensional Witch, trying to escape to another dimension as far away as Celes as possible. He is depicted as cheerful and good-natured, and acts very carefree, as if without a care in the world.

UPDATE:

Production I.G. Together with Funimation Entertainment released an OVA (original video animation) that is closely related to the prior series entitled “Tsubasa Tokyo Revelations”.
Tsubasa Tokyo Revelations was scheduled to release last November 2007 with 3 shocking episodes each lasting for approximately 25 minutes.
Another OVA was also worked by the same team entitled “Tsubasa Spring Thunder Chronicles” with 2 episodes and released last March 2009.
An animated film entitled “The Princess in the Birdcage Kingdom” was released on August 2005 where it follows Syaoran and the group to an alternate dimension where people and birds live together, the Birdcage Kingdom.

Recommended titles that are similar to Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle includes Pandora Hearts and Mnemosyne both of which are anime shows where the main character loses their memories are on a journey to regain them. You could also try xxxHolic and Cardcaptor Sakura both of which are anime shows that were made by the same person where characters interlap with one another albeit on a different dimension. The Girl Who Lept Through Time is also a good anime movie about time travelling, something that is quite similar to Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles.
