Togainu no Chi is a visual novel which was developed and published by Nitro+chiral. It was first released on February 25th, 2005 for the PC. A manga adaptation was written by Kana Yamamoto and published in Magazine ZERO by Biblos and ASCII Media Works starting 2005 and ended 2008. A novel written by Tatana Kana and was published on February 7, 2006. Another Togainu no Chi manga series was made by Suguro Chayamachi and was published in comic B’s-LOG magazine by Enterbrain starting November 1, 2006 until the present. The Togainu no Chi visual novel was ported to the HuneX for the PS2 on May 2, 2005 and the PSP on May 29, 2008. An anime adaptation, Togainu no Chi –Bloody Curs–, was created by A-1 Pictures Inc. and was directed by Naoyuki Konno. The anime series aired starting October 7, 2010 and ended December 23, 2010 on the TBS and MBS networks for twelve episodes.

Togainu no Chi plot
After the third world war (or in this series, The Third Division), the country of Japan was split into two. Many years after the war has ended, a vicious crime organization, Vischio, controls the war torn city of Toshima (Tokyo), where they host a battle game called Igura.

Igura is dangerous to the point that it may end in murder. To join this deadly game, a person must tell Arbitro their reason for joining and when they do join, are handed five dog tags with engravings similar to that of a deck of cards where one of them must hang from the participant’s neck to prove participation. A goal of the game is to collect the dog tags off other participants to get enough tags to make a Royal Flush (like in poker). For a participant to win, they must either kill their opponent or put their opponent’s back on the ground. Once a dog tag has been taken, the victor may do whatever they please to the loser which includes taking their life.

Togainu no Chi revolves around Akira, a young man accused of a crime he did not commit. He is arrested and approached by a woman, Emma, who promised Akira freedom if he takes part in the Igura and defeats the powerful Il Re. The games and series follow Akira’s journey through Toshima trying to learn the many mysteries around him.

Togainu no Chi Characters:

Akira – Akira is a young man with a cool attitude who grew up with Keisuke in an orphanage. Akira used to play a street fighting game called “Bl@ster” where he was the undefeated champion. In this game, he competed under the name “LOST”. At one point, he was sentence to life in jail after being accused of murder where he was approached by Emma who promised to get him out of jail if he participates in the Igura. In combat, he uses a knife.

Keisuke – Keisuke is an orphan like Akira and is his childhood friend. Because Keisuke considers himself as weak, he looks up to Akira’s strength. He may be shy but if Akira is involved, he changes into a bold person even joining the Igura after hearing Akira joined.

Rin – Rin is a young boy who is a participant of the Igura. Even if he is male, he has a very feminine appearance and is regularly mistaken to be female. Despite this, he is quite strong for his size and stature making him a strong participant of the Igura. Like Akira, he was also a player of “Bl@ster” and when he joined the Igura, followed Akira around helping him when needed. He duel-wields daggers and is capable of feats of agility using his knowledge and training in parkour.
