Tanken Driland is a Japanese mobile game developed by GREE, Inc. It was originally developed for the iOS and Android as a fantasy adventure and comedy game.
It wasn’t long after its release that a manga adaptation of Tanken Driland started serialization around the year 2012 which as of today is still an ongoing process.
By July 2012, Toshinori Fukuzawa together with writers Miyuki Kurei and Yoichi Takahashi worked on the anime adaptation of Tanken Driland with Toei Animation studios.
Tanken Driland started broadcasting on TV Tokyo’s TXN and AT-X last July 2012. Tanken Driland ended on March 2013 with 37 addictively fun episodes.
Set in the fictional medieval world of Driland, hunters are an ever-growing population, exploring ruins in search of legendary treasures.
Growing up caged in the castle, Princess Mikoto dreams of one day becoming herself a hunter despite her royal responsibility of one day assuming the throne of the country of Elua.
Following the great advice of Bonny, an experienced hunter and who is a great inspiration to her, Mikoto decides to fulfill her dream and embarks on a journey to see the world with her own eyes.
Accompanying Mikoto is Wallens, her personal assistant; Pollon, an aspiring hunter who dreams of becoming a world-renowned hero; and Paan, a mysterious wandering knight.
As they continue on their journey, they later realize of an ever looming darkness that is drawing ever closer.
Mikoto is the royal princess of Elua. Growing up, she has always dreamed of becoming a hunter, exploring the world in search of treasures. Mikoto is remarkably friendly even to strangers and would most of the time be the first one to help someone in trouble. She possesses the power of the goddess Isowel which enables her to freely control water as manifested by a powerful whirlpool of water around her sword.
Wallens is the royal and personal assistant of Mikoto. He is usually calm and collected, trying his best to act responsibly to any and every situation that befalls him or the princess. He is shown to be extremely loyal to Mikoto and would even risk his own life to save hers. Wallens is a skilled martial arts fighter. It came to a point wherein he felt powerless to protect Mikoto so he trained with Rogai to learn how to fully energize his muscles and perform stupendously powerful attacks.
Pan is the wandering adventurer who later joins up with Mikoto and Wallens. He is portrayed to be a very cool and mellow character who enjoys a good battle. He strongly dislikes disrespectful people and would even go out of his way to correct them. He is a remarkably skilled fighter and uses a double-edged poleaxe as a weapon.
Pollon is an aspiring adventurer hoping to one day become a hero. Growing up, Pollon has always been in the shadow of his brother so he embarks on a journey to prove to himself to his father and his brother. He loves to eat and is oftentimes seen carrying around food. He uses a gun, which at first, he has no idea how to use.
