General Information

Suisei no Gargantia (翠星のガルガンティア-Suisei no Garugantia - Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet) is a Japanese anime television series produced by Production I.G. directed by Kazuya Murata and was written by Gen Urobuchi. Suisei no Gargantia ran from April 7th to June 30th of 2013 having 13 episodes. The manga was serialized on January 10th, 2013 and is still on-going. The manga was written by Wataru Mitogiwa and published by Kadokawa Shouten on their NewType Ace magazine.

A sequel to the series is currently published in light novel format.

Plot:
"In the distant future, mankind already left earth and migrated to the stars and formed the Galactic Alliance of Humankind (人類銀河同盟-Jinrui Ginga Dōmei) in order to preserve of what is left of humankind. At the same time, the alliance is in a constant conflict with an alien species called the Hideauze.

16 year old ensign Ledo is one of the soldiers in the Galactic Alliance who was awakened from his cryogenic slumber, similar to others of his kind to pilot a machine caliber, an AI-automated, humanoid-shaped battle suit which Ledo calls “Chamber”. They were sent to a mission to destroy a massive Hideauze in a distant galaxy. However, their mission failed and while trying to retreat through a wormhole the Alliance created, Ledo ended up losing his way and lost consciousness.

When he awoke, he discovered from Chamber that he was in cryostasis for six months to preserve his life and at the same time, heal his wounds. They eventually encounter a group of “primitive” human scavengers and are on board a massive fleet of ships on a planet that is surrounded by oceans. After accessing his database, Chamber informs Ledo that they are actually in planet Earth, the birthplace of humanity, a place that the Alliance considers as a myth."

Similar Series: Suisei no Gargantia series is similar to a recent anime entitled Sidonia no Kishi which is also set in the distant future where the last bastion of mankind has a war against an alien specie.
