[Sonic the Hedgehog] is the most popular video game franchise developed and owned by [SEGA].

Naoto Ohshima is the designer of Sonic's iconic look, which became the world famous mascot of SEGA, however, Yuji Naka is often credited as the creator of Sonic the Hedgehog being the lead programmer of his debut videogame in 1991.

First starting as a fast-paced side-scrolling 2D platformer for the Sega Genesis, Sonic later expanded into numerous other genres including action-adventure, fighting, racing, role-playing, pinball, and even sports.

A three season anime series called [Sonic X] produced by [TMS Entertainment] under partnership with [SEGA] and Sonic Team aired from April 6, 2003 to May 6, 2006 at a total of 78 episodes. Several animated TV shows have been produced, as well as blockbuster live action movies shown in theaters worldwide, achieving massive international success in ticket sales and popularity among fans new and old.
A Sonic The Hedgehog comic book series was published by [Archie Comics] from 1993 to 2017, becoming one of the longest running comic book series based on a video game character. [Idw Publishing] took over as the publisher in 2018 continuing to publish the series today.
