Smile Precure!

Smile Pretty Cure or more commonly known in its abbreviated form as Smile Precure is a Japanese magical girl anime series written by none other than Shoji Yonemura, the man behind big hit shows like Pokemon, Berserk and Kamen Rider Kabuto.
Smile Precure is actually the ninth installment of the sensationally epic Pretty Cure series. Smile Precure was produced by Toei Animation under the direction of Takashi Otsuka and Atsutoshi Umezawa as the leading producer for the entire series.
Smile Precure made its grand debut on February 2012 on TV Asahi. Smile Precure ended shortly on January 2013 of the following year with 48 magical episodes under its name.
During the same time, Smile Precure aired on television, Kodansha published the manga adaptation of Smile Precure which was magnificently written by Izumi Todo, whose works included Magical DoReMi and Ashita no Nadja.
The manga series started serialization on March 2012 and ended shortly after the anime version ended roughly around February 2013.

PLOT:

Once upon a time, “Marchenland” is home to a number of fairytale characters where they mingled with one another and lived together in joy.
Suddenly out of nowhere, Pierrot, the evil emperor of Bad End Kingdom, seeks to destroy the world and give everyone the “worst ending” by sealing the Queen and stealing the almighty “Cure Decors”, a mysterious power of light and happiness.
Over the course of the battle, the Queen gets sealed away and her power, Cure Decors, gets scattered and fell onto Earth.
With Pierrot and his minions still out there, the Kingdom sends in Candy the fairy to find the missing Cure Decors and the legendary warriors to wield them to finally put an end to Pierrot and his minions: Joker and the Bad End Generals (Wolfrun, Akaoni and Majorina).
Following the beams of light where the Cure Decors fell, Candy bumps into Miyuki Hoshizora, a transfer student from Nanairogaoka Middle School. Is their chance encounter purely a coincidence or was it fate?

CHARACTERS:

Miyuki Hoshizora is the fourteen-year old transfer student of Nanairogaoka Middle School. Miyuki is the leader of the Pretty Cures and just like other Cures before her; she is cheerful, bubbly and remarkably optimistic although she can be somewhat of a klutz. She transforms into Cure Happy and uses the power of holy light. In her Cure Happy form, she can leap much higher than the other Cures.

Akane Hino is Miyuki’s classmate and part of the school’s volleyball team. Akane is the comedian in the group. Although Akane is a jokester, she can be very passionate when it comes to achieving her goals. She transforms into Cure Sunny and uses the power of fire. In her Cure Sunny form, she gains unrivaled strength which comes handy in a number of situations.

Yayoi Kise is a member of the school’s comics club, aspiring to become a world-renowned manga artist, a.k.a. mangaka. Although Yayoi can come off as timid, shy and somewhat of a crybaby, she is actually undeniably loyal, diligent and headstrong when push comes to shove. She transforms into Cure Peace and uses the power of lightning. In her Cure Peace form, she is able to shock anything and anyone nearby.

Nao Midorikawa is a tomboyish girl and part of the school’s soccer team. Nao can be straightforward and reliable about mostly anything, that and paired with her strong sense of justice. She can easily get frustrated even over the little things especially when things don’t go according to plan. She transforms into Cure March and uses the power of wind. In her Cure March form, she gains super speed.

Reika Aoki is the student council vice president and member of the school’s Art Club. Reika is generally elegant and kind-hearted, but can be frightening as well especially when her patience reaches the limit. She transforms into Cure Beauty and uses the power of ice. In her Cure Beauty form, she is able to predict her opponent’s movements and paired with her reflexes, she is able to dodge her opponent’s attacks.

UPDATE:

The tenth installment of the Pretty Cure series, “DokiDoki Precure” has been officially announced by Toei Animation and made its grand entrance last March 2013.
It is scheduled to run for 49 sensationally magical episodes.
On October 2012, the 70-minute anime film of Smile Precure the Movie hit the big screens and all of the heroines made their appearance.
