Shoujo Kakumei Utena is an manga made by and illustrated by Chiho Saito and was published in Ciao Magazine by Shogakukan starting 196 and ended 1997. An anime adaptation was written by Yoji Enokido, directed by Kunihiko Ikuhara, made by studio J.C.Staff and aired on TV Tokyo from April 2, 1997 until its end at December 24, 1997.

Shoujo Kakumei Utena Plot:

When Utena’s parents died when she was a child, she wandered the town and comong across a river, fell into it. She is then saved by Prince Dios who hands her a Rose Signet and urges her to keep her nobility. She then receives a letter annually during the time the roses bloom. Her friend, Kaido, is eager to find where the letters are coming from. She later meets her aunt’s co-worker, Aoi Wakaohj, who coincidently looks very similar to the prince that saved Utena. She first suspects that he is her prince but her dreams are soon crushed when she spots her aunt and Aoi having a romantic moment. Kaido then discovers that the letters where being sent from an exclusive school and Utena transfers there leaving Kaido heartbroken.

Utena Tenjou – Utena Tenjou is a second year, middle school student in Ohtori academy. When she was young, her parents died. She wandered around town when she almost drowns in a river but is saved by a mysterious prince. She is given a rose and told to stay noble. Every year when the roses bloom, she is sent letter from an unknown source. She makes it her goal to find her prince.

Anthy Himemiya – Anthy is girl who happens to have no desires or thoughts of herself aside from her master’s. The desires of others are always projected onto her.

Akio Ohtori – Akio is Anthy’s older brother and is the academy’s chairman. Originally, Akio and Dios were the same but then he was corrupted and lost his purpose. To reacquire his lost power, he makes the Dueling Game to draw out a powerful duelist who can break the Rose Gate’s seal where his power is held.
