Shimenawa – _Images

Shimenawa, a traditional Japanese rope-like decoration made of rice straw or hemp rope, is used in Shinto rituals to mark sacred spaces or objects, symbolizing the presence of kami, the spirits in Shinto belief.

Often adorned with shide (zigzag-shaped paper) and commonly seen at shrines and festivals throughout Japan, it represents purification, protection, and spiritual significance in Japanese culture.

In anime art, it is used as part of the decoration of a character outfit, for example Yoimiya's default outfit, Goldfish Firecracker, has a large Shimenawa Bow on her back.
