Shaun of the Dead is a 2004 horror comedy film directed by none other than Edgar Wright, the same brilliant mind who has worked on several famous films like The Adventures of Tintin, Land of the Dead and Scott Pilgrim vs the World.
Shaun of the Dead was written by Wright and Simon Pegg and Produced by Nira Park.
Shaun of the Dead made its way to the big screens last March 2004 in London and later made its way to the United States in September 2004.
Shaun of the Dead easily became a box office hit which net a gross of $30M.

PLOT:

Shaun of the Dead is the story of an ordinary man, Shaun, trying to cope with the unexpected apocalyptic rising of zombies. Shaun is your average run-of-the-mill employee at an electronics shop. Life isn’t too good for Shaun as he tries to get by after breaking up with his girlfriend, Liz. One day, he decides to turn his life around and get his life back on track starting by getting his ex to take him back with whatever means possible. Turns out, Shaun may not very well be good with the timing as it happens to be in the middle of what may be a zombie apocalypse. As the flesh-hungry undead starts to rise all around modern-day London, Shaun must come to the rescue of his ex-girlfriend and her mother before all hell breaks loose. With his best friend Edgar at his side to fight the good fight, thw two will have to pave their way through zombie-ridden London. Shaun sets out to rescue those he loves and heads tp the safest place he knows best… the Winchester, a local pub which he frequents.



CHARACTERS:

Shaun is played by Simon Pegg as the average run-of-the-mill employee at an electronics shop. Suffering from a recent break up with his ex-girlfriend Liz, he decides to turn his life back around and trying to win her back. Despite his rather laidback personality, he is someone whom his friends can rely on especially during times when they need him.

Liz is played by Kate Ashfield is Shaun’s nagging ex-girlfriend. She broke up with Shaun after being fed up with their social life always ending up drinking at a local pub, the Winchester. On the eve of their anniversary, Shaun forgot to book reservations at a restaurant which made the turning point for the break up. Despite their horrid and sudden break up, Liz do still have feelings for Shaun which became apparent when Shaun came to her rescue.

Ed is played by Nick Frost who happens to be Shaun’s best friend. Despite how he looks, he is extremely loyal to his friend even going out of his way to help Shaun rescue his ex-girlfriend in a zombie-ridden London. He is later turned into a zombie after he was bitten trying to fend off the undead. The movie ended with Ed chained to wall in Shaun’s garage playing computer like they usually do like nothing ever happened... as a zombie of course.


UPDATE:

Shaun of the Dead received worldwide critical acclaim, mostly positive. Even Nev Pierce, a movie reviewer for BBC, called it as a “side-splitting, head-smashing, gloriously gory horror comedy” that will amuse both casual viewers and hardcore fans of the genre. In 2004, Total Film magazine named Shaun of the Dead as the 49th greatest British film of all time.
