General Information:

Shakugan no Shana (Japanese: 灼眼のシャナ lit. Burning Eyed Shana) is a widely popular Japanese light novel series by Yasichiro Takahashi.
Shakugan no Shana was illustrated by Noizi Ito and published by ASCII Media Works which later was licensed by Viz Media.
As of November 2012, there are a total of twenty-six (26) published volumes of Shakugan no Shana. Shakugan no Shana is a combination of action, drama, romance and supernatural.
The manga adaptation of Shakugan no Shana was published in Dengeki Daioh with ten volumes published under its name.


Takashi Watanabe, the man behind exceptional shows like Slayers and Freezing, will be directing the anime adaptation of Shakugan no Shana.
Shakugan no Shana premiered on October 2005 and ended on March 2006 with 24 bone-chilling action-packed episodes.

Plot:

Shakugan no Shana depicts an old-age conflict between the humans and those who inhabit the Crimson Realm, a parallel dimension populated by mysterious beings called the Crimson Denizens (Guze no Tomogara) who are able to manipulate Power of Existence, the very fundamental power in any and all biological being that fuels its very existence.
These so-called Crimson Denizens disrupts the balance by collecting Power of Existence from the humans for their own selfish purposes. That’s where Shana comes in.
Shana is the fiery huntress who contracted with a Fire Lord whose sole purpose is stopping and destroying these so-called Crimson Denizens that consume human lives.


Sakai Yuuji, you average high school student is thrown into the middle of it all when he witnesses these so-called Crimson Denizens swallowing human beings as if they’re merely easy pickings.
Just as the monster is about to consume Yuuji, a sword-wielding girl with flaming red eyes and hair that burns like embers saves him in the nick of time.
The girl calls herself as a “Flame Haze” who apparently hunts these Crimson Denizens and protects the balance of the world.
He later discovers that he is already a “Torch”, a temporary replacement for an existence that is about to fade seeing that the “real” Yuuji has already died in that battle.
Much to their surprise, Yuuji finds new-found strength in his situation and later joins Shana in her mission to maintain the balance between the ordinary world and the supernatural.

Shakugan no Shana Second

A second 24-episode anime series entitled Shakugan no Shana Second aired in Japan between October 2007 and March 2008.




Plot:

Shana and Alastor, her contracted Lord of Crimson Realm, continues to battle with the so-called Crimson Denizens (aka the Guze no Tomogara) who continues to steal a human’s Power of Existence for themselves.
In the last battle, Yuji is revealed to be a “mystes”, a special kind of Torch with nearly unlimited Powers of Existence that refreshes every midnight.
Since then, the Crimson Denizens have been trying to capture Yuuji to tap into his limitless power and use him to upset the balance between the Human World and the Crimson Realm.
Determined to prevent that, Shana vows to protect him at all costs and he in turn promises to join in her fight.
The heated bond between Shana and Yuuji is tested through the tests of time and emotions flare as a suspicious transfer student who resembles a recently defeated Denizen clings to Yuuji.

Shakugan no Shana S

A four-episode OVA series entitled Shakugan no Shana S was released between October 2009 and September 2010.



Plot:
"A 4 episode OVA series. Every episode from Shakugan no Shana S involves different side stories from the original light novels.

Episode 1 - Reshuffle:
Due to the effect of Friagne's treasure device, the bodies of Shana and Yuji are swapped. They try to overcome the situation secretly, but...

Episode 2 - Domicile:
Recently, Shana has been acting strangely. Worried over her well-being, Yuji and Wilhelmina decide to follow her from the shadows after school one day. What secret could Shana be hiding?

Episode 3 - Overture (Part 1):
While hunting for a certain tomogara, Shana steals the existence of a torch named Oogami Junko in order to make her investigation throughout the city easier; while also dealing with the family problems left behind by Junko when she was devoured.

Shakugan no Shana III (Final)

A third anime series, Shakugan no Shana Final, began airing in October 2011.



Plot:

Continuing from the events from the previous series, Shana and Izumi stands at opposing sides of city waiting on Yuuji to make his decision whether to continue fighting evil (if he chooses Shana) or live his life as a normal teenager (if he chooses Izumi.
On the night he was supposed to make the big decision, he suddenly and mysteriously disappeared without a trace, with not even the slightest idea as to where he went or what happened to him.
When all hope is lost, Yuuji reappears in front of them as the leader of Bal Masque, the Crimson Denizen’s highest organization, in an unlikely and dubious plot of bringing peace to the world by eliminating the Haze system.
Left with no choice, Shana must now confront her most unlikely adversary in her most difficult challenge yet whilst Flame Hazes from across the world join forces to ignite a war that will ultimately determine the fate of all: both human and the supernatural.
