Sekai-Ichi Hatsukoi: Onodera Ritsu no Baai (世界一初恋 〜小野寺律の場合〜?, lit. "The World's Greatest First Love: Onodera Ritsu's Affair") is a Japanese boys-love manga series written and illustrated by Shungiku Nakamura. In 2011, the manga was adapted into an anime television series under the title Sekai-ichi Hatsukoi. Produced by Studio DEEN under the direction of Chiaki Kon, the anime series began its broadcast run on April 9, 2011. An original animation DVD was bundled with the fifth and sixth volumes of the manga series, released in March and September 2011.

Sekai-Ichi—Hatsukoi Plot:
Onodera Ritsu, a literary editor, resigns from his father's publishing company, due to his coworkers' jealousy of his success, claiming that he is simply riding his father's coattails. He applies for a position at Marukawa Publishing in order to move away from his father's shadow, but instead of his preferred department of literature he is placed in the infamous shōjo manga department, Emerald. He initially considers resigning, especially because he finds his new boss, Masamune Takano, intolerable and unnerving from the very beginning; however, Takano inadvertently convinces Onodera to stick with the job by calling him "useless," his pride forcing him to stay in order to prove his worth. Later, Onodera learns that Takano's old family name was Saga, an older schoolmate from high school that Ritsu fell in love with and confessed to.

Sekai-Ichi—Hatsukoi Characters:
Ritsu Onodera – Onodera is a literary editor who resigned from his father’s publishing company after overhearing his co-workers accuse him of abusing his father’s influence to get ahead of them. To prove himself, he transfers to Marukawa Publishing expecting to work in the literary department but ends up in the emerald department to work with manga. He ends up working for a man who he loved in high school.

Masamune Takano – Takano works in Marukawa Publishing as the editor-in-chief of the Emerald department. He was once in a relationship with Onodera after Onodera confessed that he loved him. He coincidently becomes Onodera’s boss and makes it his goal to make Onodera love him again.

An Kohinata – She is Onodera’s fiancé and childhood friend. They were agreed to marry by their parents. An harbors deep feelings for Onodera and even confessed to him but he doesn’t see her in that way.

Chiaki Yoshino – Yoshino is a manga artist who goes by the female name, Chiharu Yoshikawa. His childhood friend and editor is Yoshiyuki Hatori. Hatori and Yanase are his two friends who are in a relationship. He also has feelings for Hatori which he starts to question after seeing Hatori and Yanase together.

Hatori Yoshiyuki – Hatori is the editor of the Emerald department. He harbors feelings for his childhood friend, Yoshino. After telling Yoshino that he loved him, he keeps his distance fearing Yoshino wouldn’t return his feelings and instead, goes into a relationship with Yanase.
