Puyo Puyo(ぷよぷよ) is a series of tile-matching video games created by Compile and later Sonic Team.
Puyo Puyo, originally released by Compile in 1991, featured characters from the 1989 RPG Madou Monogatari, also made by Compile. Puyos were enemy monsters in said game, as the rough equivalent of the slime monsters from the Dragon Quest game series.

Puyo Puyo (ぷよぷよ) is the inaugural game in the Puyo Puyo series originally released in 1991 by Compile for the MSX2. Since its creation, it uses characters from Madou Monogatari (魔導物語). It was created by Masamitsu "Moo" Niitani, the founder of Compile, who was inspired by certain elements from the Tetris and Dr. Mario series of games.

Puyo Puyo Tsu (ぷよぷよ通, also known as Puyo Puyo 2, Puyo Puyo Tsuu or Puyo Puyo 2: Tsuu) is the second instalment of the Puyo Puyo games; the sequel to Puyo Puyo, made in 1994 by Compile.
Puyo Puyo SUN
Puyo Puyo SUN (ぷよぷよSUN) is the third installment of the Puyo Puyo games series, and the sequel to Puyo Puyo Tsu, made in 1996 by Compile.
The name of Puyo Puyo SUN comes from a Japanese pun on san, and also indicates a new Puyo brought into the game. As Sun Puyo were used in this game, and the game itself is not only set on a tropical beach, but is the third in the series (san (三) is the Japanese word for the number three), the name served multiple purposes.
Puyo Puyo~n
Puyo Puyo~n (ぷよぷよ〜ん), also known as Puyo Puyo 4, and Puyo Puyo~n Party (for the N64 version) is the fourth installment of the Puyo Puyo puzzle game series, created by Sega and Compile for the Dreamcast, PlayStation, Nintendo 64 and Game Boy Color. Like many of the Puyo Puyo games, it was never officially released outside of Japan.
The name of Puyo Puyo~n comes from the Japanese word yon (四, meaning four), signifying the fourth game in the series.

Puyo Puyo Fever 2
Puyo Puyo Fever 2 (ぷよぷよフィーバーチュー!) is a 2005 video game developed by Sonic Team and published by Sega. The game was released as a sequel to the previous title, Puyo Pop Fever, but is also seen as the sixth game of the entire Puyo Puyo series as the next game is titled Puyo Puyo 7. The gameplay remains relatively unchanged, but several new modes are introduced. The game features nine different plots, each one pertaining to its three protagonists.

Puyo Puyo 7 (ぷよぷよ7) is the seventh installment in the Puyo Puyo series released on Nintendo DS on July 30 and November 26, 2009 for PlayStation Portable and Wii. This game is endorsed by Erika Toda, following on from Sega's use of female Japanese stars to promote the series.
