A sequel to Prince of Tennis set several months after Prince of Tennis ends.

The Prince of Tennis begun as a manga series by Tekshi Konomi with Shueisha publishing its first release, ”The Prince of Tennis” in Weelu Shonen Jump magazine starting July 1999 and ending March 3, 2008. A sequel of the original manga, The Prince After School, features illustrations by Kenichi Sakura and was released in Jump Square magazine by Shueisha starting November 2008 until the present. Another manga, New Prince of Tennis, is still written by Takeshi Konimi and was published in Jump Square magazine by Shueisha starting March 4, 2009 until the present.

An anime adaptation of The Prince of Tennis was directed by Takayuki Hamana under Trans Arts studio and aired on TV Tokyo and Animax starting October 10, 2001 and ended March 30, 2005 and ran for 178 episodes.

An OVA, Sonzoku Yama no Nichi or “A day on Survival Mountain” was made by Production I.G and was released on 2003. An OVA series, Zenkoku Taikai Hen or “The National Tournament”, was directed by Shunsuke Tada under M.S.C studio and ran for 13 episodes with the first one starting March 24, 2006 and ended on March 23, 2007. Another OVA Series, Zenkoku Taikai Hen Semifinal or “The National Yournament Semifinal”, ran for 6 episodes starting June 22, 2007 and ended January 25, 2008. The final OVA series, Zenkoku Taikai Hen Final or “The National Tournament Final”, ran for 7 episodes starting April 25, 2008 and ended January 23, 2009.

A new anime adaptation, New Prince of Tennis, was directed by Hideyo Yamamoto under studios M.S.C and Production I.G and aired on TV Aichi, TV Tokyo ad TV Osaka starting January 4, 2012 and ended March 28, 2012.

New Prince of Tennis Plot

New Prince of Tennis is set a few months after the end of “The Prince of Tennis” when Ryoma returns from his trip to America as one of the candidates for the U-17 (Under 17) High School Representatives Selection Camp. Ryoma, along with fifty other 50 middle school candidates, duke it out for the top twenty spots being the first candidates to have a chance represent Japan in the middle school level. During this camp, candidates encounter old as well as encounter new tennis players. The students not only learn new tennis techniques but learn what it means to be a good sportsman.

Jump Square says that the original manga and anime were only prologues to “The New Prince of Tennis” and that the new adventure starts in the new series.

Prince of Tennis Characters

Tokugawa Kazuya – Kazuya is a 2nd year High School student attending the U-17 High School Representatives Selection Camp. He lost to Byoudouin a year ago making him lose his confidence. He eventually worked his way back up training with Irie Kanata and Juujirou Oni to get back at Byoudouin. He can be very quiet but cares a lot for his upperclassmen.

Irie Kanata – Kanata is a third year Highschool Student who was the former 3rd court leader. He’s considered to be the strongest of the players even though he’s not the 1st court leader. It is later revealed that it is his choice to stay in the lower courts.

Echizen Ryoma – Ryoma is a gifted middle school tennis player who won over four championship titles a single year and has been labelled a prodigy. He is also confident and good looking attracting many women even though he’s oblivious to their feelings. His only love is for Tennis.
