Muv-Luv (マブラヴ, Mabu Ravu) is a Japanese visual novel developed by âge and spin-off series of Kimi Ga Nozomu Eien (characters from this series appear here as well), which was originally released as an adult game for the PC in February 28, 2003. An All Ages Version with the adult content removed was released on September 22, 2006. The all-age version uses Alternative's engine (wide screen, 5.1 surround sound), has new opening sequences for both Extra and Unlimited (Extra's original opening sequence can still be seen), and has several minor changes to the script and new CGs. Cuts are the adult scenes and the option to return to the last choice.

Muv-Luv is divided into two parts:

Muv-Luv Extra (マブラヴ エクストラ), a highschool romance comedy, taking place in the same world as Kimi ga Nozomu Eien, precisely one day after the events of Akane Maniax.

Muv-Luv Unlimited (マブラヴ アンリミテッド), a sequel of sorts, and an overall more serious story in a war-torn alternate world setting.

At the beginning, only the Extra story is available to play. Upon finishing the two main routes, the option to play Unlimited is unlocked.

Plot (Extra):
"Shirogane Takeru wakes up one morning to find a beautiful young woman sleeping in his bed; and an infuriated Kagami Sumika, Takeru's neighbor and childhood friend, finding both of them in inapropiate circumstances. The young woman, Mitsurugi Meiya, is the heiress to a financially powerful family and is determined to be Takeru's bride. Meiya soon joins Takeru and Sumika's school to get closer to the main character. As the game progresses, both girls compete for Takeru's affection, forming a bond of friendship between them and other girls from the same class. "

Plot (Unlimited):
"One day Shirogane Takeru wakes up late, wondering why Sumika or Meiya didn't wake him up that morning. Not seeing any signs of them he gets a bit worried, and goes out of his house only to see the town he lived all his life in ruins, and that, to his joy, there are real life giant robots. After getting past the initial shock he convinces himself that it must be a dream and decides to enjoy it as much as he can. Takeru, still skeptical about his situation, decides to join the military in order to pilot a mech. Soon he finds out the terrible truth behind the reason the world is in ruins, and meets people that look exactly like his friends from his original world."

MuvLuv Alternative

Muv-Luv Alternative (マブラヴ　オルタネイティブ) is a sequel to the first Muv-Luv game, taking place after the events of Unlimited.

Three manga series based on Muv-Luv and Muv-Luv Alternative were published by MediaWorks and later ASCII Media Works and serialized in the manga magazine Dengeki Daioh. Shueisha also published a seven volume novel series based on Muv-Luv and Muv-Luv Alternative.

Plot:
"In Alternative, Shirogane Takeru wakes up three years after the end of Unlimited to find himself back in his room. Although he first thinks that everything that had happened to him was a dream, he soon feels that something is wrong, and leaves the house to find that he has been sent back in time to the beginning of the events in Unlimited. Unwilling to accept something like Alternative V, he decides to help Professor Kouzuki to complete Alternative IV and save mankind."

While the game starts off loosely following some of the events of Unlimited, Takeru soon makes enough of a difference for all sorts of things that didn't happen in the previous timeline to occur.

Muv-Luv Altered Fable

Altered Fable is the second fan disc for Muv-Luv released on August 31th, 2007. Although it strongly resembles the peaceful setting of Muv-Luv Extra, the events actually take place in a third timeline following the worlds of "Extra" and "Alternate".
