Mobile Suit Gundam Wing

General Information:

Mobile Suit Gundam Wing (Japanese: 新機動戦記ガンダムW) is a part of the big-hit Gundam franchise in the mecha genre.
Mobile Suit Gundam Wing was written by Katsuyuki Sumizawa and directed by none other than Masashi Ikeda.
Mobile Suit Gundam Wing was licensed by Sunrise Studios and Madman Entertainment which aired in Australia, U.K. and the U.S. on Cartoon Network and the YTV Channel.
Mobile Suit Gundam Wing premiered on TV Asahi back in April 1995. Mobile Suit Gundam Wing ended its run with 49 action-packed episodes on March 1996.

Plot:

In the much distant future, mankind has colonized space and created space colonies.
Meanwhile on Earth, the nations have come together to form the so-called Earth Sphere Alliance.
The Alliance has deemed it right to control and oppress the colonies using its vast military might.
Wishing to be free from the Alliance’s dictatorship, space colony pacifist Heero Yuy searches for paths of peace between the Earth and the space colonies.
In the year After Colony 175, Heero Yuy was shot dead by an assassin.
The assassination prompted the actions of five genius scientists from the Organization of the Zodiac (OZ for short) and turned rogue upon the completion of the mobile suit prototype, the Tallgeese.

It is now the year After Colony 195, and the five disaffected scientists prompted the start of “Operation Meteor”, the scientist’s plan for revenge against OZ and free the colonies from the Alliance.
Five remarkably talented teenage boys are chosen and trained by each scientist to pilot five inexplicably unique mobile suits, the Gundams, one designed by each scientist.
They are then sent to Earth and given missions towards their end goal: to attack OZ, rid the Alliance of its weapons and free the colonies from its oppressive rule.
Although initially unaware of each other’s existence, Heero Yuy (just an alies), Duo Maxwell, Trowa Barton, Quatre Raberba Winner and Chang Wufei must help out each other to accomplish their same goals.

Characters:

Heero Yuy is main protagonist of the Gundam Wing series. Not much of his past were revealed, only that he was once a nameless protégé of the notorious assassin, Odin Lowe. He was later chosen by Doctor J for Operation Meteor and was trained to pilot the XXXG-01W Gundam Wing.

Duo Maxwell is the cheerful and goofy pilot of the XXXG-01D Gundam Deathscythe. Just like Heero, Duo was chosen by Doctor G to partake in Operation Meteor. He refers to himself as “shinigami” (the Japanese word for God of Death) because anyone who gets close to him eventually dies.

Trowa Barton is the stoic young pilot of the XXXG-01H Gundam Heavyarms. Generally reserved and emotionless in the battlefield, he is actually a warm-hearted person who is willing to do just about anything to protect those he care about.

Quatre Raberba Winner is the heir to a major space mining company and the kind-hearted pilot of the XXXG-01SR Gundam Sandrock. He became the leader of a group of middle-eastern fighters known as the Maganac Corps.

Chang Wufei is the fierce pilot of the XXXG-01S Shenlong. He comes from a long, proud line of Chinese warriors that takes pride in strength of one’s body and mind.

Update:

Following its end, Sunrise Studios also released two OVAs (original video animation), Gundam Wing: Operation Meteor and Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz.
Gundam Wing: Operation Meteor was released in four-part episodes which were never released outside of Japan.
Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz was released later in 1997 which served as a sequel to the event of the original series and bringing the “After Colony” timeline to a close.
Several manga sequels and spin offs were made after the anime television series went viral.
A serial novel under the title “Frozen Teardrop” by Katsuyuki Sumizawa was published in the Gundam Ace magazine since August 2010.
