Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny (Japanese: 機動戦士ガンダム) is a military and mecha anime television series produced by Sunrise Studios.
Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny served as the sequel set two years later after the original events in Mobile Suit Gundam SEED.
Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny was directed by Mitsuo Fukuda, the same man who has worked on [Cross Ange] and [Future GPX Cyber Formula].
Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny premiered on October 2004 and ended a short while on October 2005 of the following year, with 50 adrenaline-packed episodes.
Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny premiered on MBS and TBS TV networks.



PLOT:

Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny is set two years later after the happenings of the original series.
In the Cosmic Era 73, the war between Naturals and Coordinators has come to an apparent close with the signing of a peace treaty.
But what seemed peaceful at first may turn out to be short-lived as tensions fueled by the continued threat of the Blue Cosmos continue to run high.
During a peace conference between the PLANT Chairman Gilbert Dullindal and ORB representative Cagalli Yula Atha, an allied Special Forces attack the ZAFT base and makes off with three of their newest Gundam mobile suits.
ZAFT soldier Shinn Asuka together with his comrades aboard the new space battleship, Minerva, sortie in an attempt to deter this hijacking.
With the help of Cagalli’s bodyguard, Athrun Zala, the Minerva chases after the unknown ship that hijacked three GUNDAM mobile suits.
But just as they catch up to the fleeing ship, the crew receives word of an even greater catastrophe in the making, which will undoubtedly re-ignite the brutal war between the Naturals and the Coordinators all over again, the second Bloody Valentine war.



CHARACTERS:

Kira Yamato is a first-generation Coordinator, who lived on a neutral space colony, Heliopolis, in hopes of avoiding the war between Naturals and Coordinators. Born as a Coordinator, he hides his identity hoping he would be treated normally by his friends. But when his friend’s lives are threatened, he is forced to pilot the Strike Gundam Mobile Suit. He now lives on a peaceful island with Lacus Clyne away from the ensuing chaos and war. Despite his vow to never take a pilot’s life ever again, he is forced to pilot a Gundam yet again when Lacus is threatened by armed assassins sent to kill her. He pilots the Freedom Gundam and later to its upgraded version, the Strike Freedom.


Athrun Zala is Kira’s childhood friend who ended up joining the military organization ZAFT. His fated reunion with Kira was cut short when he discovers that he is now part of Natural’s military organization, the Earth Alliance. He later rejoins the ZAFT military army after a renegade group of pilots attacked a ZAFT base and stole 3 of their newest Gundam Mobile Suits during a peace conference between ORB and the Plants. He pilots the Savior Gundam which got destroyed in a fight against Kira and was later given the chance to pilot the Infinite Justice, an upgraded version of the Justice.


Shinn Asuka is now a member of the military organization ZAFT after his entire family was killed in the previous war. He now holds a grudge against his own country, ORB, for their incapacity to protect them when they really needed them. Although quite talented as a pilot with an intense drive and focus in bettering himself, he does fall short when it comes to fighting against Kira or Athrun, who are veterans when it comes to fighting. He started out piloting the Impulse Gundam but was later promoted through his undeniable achievements in battle and was asked to pilot the Destiny Gundam.


UPDATE:

Sunrise Studios released an additional episode, “Final Episode: The Chosen Future” to better give the series a better ending than its cliff-hanger episode.
The OVA (original video animation) was released on Christmas Eve of December 2005.
Three manga series were also written by Masatsugu Iwase and Chimaki Kuori accordingly.
A 4-part 90-minute special edition of Gundam SEED Destiny was also released which compiled all of the best scenes of the show.


Nothing beats mecha anime shows than the epic [Gundam] series. Highly recommended shows that are quite similar to Gundam SEED Destiny would include [Mobile Suit SD Gundam], [Mobile Suit Gundam Wing], [After War Gundam X], [Mobile Suit Gundam 00], [Mobile Suit Gundam AGE] and [Gundam Build Fighters]. Aside from the big hit Gundam series, you can also check out [Macross Frontier], [Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann], [Code Geass], [Evangelion], and [Broken Blade] to name a few.
