Metantei Conan or more widely known as “Case Closed” or “Detective Conan”, is a Japanese detective fiction manga series that was both written and illustrated by Gosho Aoyama.
Metantei Conan started serialization in Shogakukan's Weekly Shounen Sunday since January 1994.
Metantei Conan is still an ongoing manga series which has published 85 tankobon volumes as of to date.
TMS Entertainment produced the anime adaptation of Metantei Conan together with Kenji Kodama (exceptional works includes City Hunter, Great Teacher Onizuka and Lupin III) and Yasuichiro Yamamoto, who was known for his stellar work in Itazura no Kiss, Hamtaro and Kamichu!, as co-directors for the show.
Metantei Conan premiered on NNS since January 1996. Metantei Conan has released over 753 episodes and still going.

PLOT:

Metantei Conan follows Shinichi Kudo, a seventeen-year old genius detective who helps out the police with their cases.
His ingenious and exceptional detective skills are incomparable that he earned the nickname as the “Modern-Day Sherlock Holmes.
One peculiar night, Shinichi is out on a date with his childhood friend, Ran, when he is suddenly attacked from behind while investigating on a case.
He is attacked by Gin and Vodka, who happens to be members of the evil syndicate, the Black Organization.
They forced him to ingest an experimental poison, the APTX 4869, which is said to be untraceable even with modern tests.
Fortunately for him, instead of dying from the poison, he is instead shrunk into a seven-year old boy as a rare side effect of the poison.
Determined to track down the men behind his attack, he takes on the psuedonym “Conan Edogawa” and lived with Ran, whose father happens to be a hopeless detective in the force.
And with that, a string of bizzarre and unusual murders starts happening and it is up to Shinichi, rather to Conan, to solve these cases and hope that he finds a clue to the elusive Black Organization using Mouri Kogoro's (Ran's father) Detective Agency.



CHARACTERS:

Kogoro Mouri is Ran's father who also happens to be a detective in the local police force. He was hopeless until the day Conan enters their lives as he helps Kogoro in his cases and gives him the credit for solving them, unknowingly. He was former police officer who turned into a detective in hopes of pushing his career forward. Despite his rather carefree and irresponsible personality, he does show in more ways than one that he cares deeply for her daughter and would even risk his life for hers. He does show a deep sense of honor and strict ethics from time to time. As a detective, he is an extremely skilled Judo master and an expert marksman, albeit naïve to a fault.


UPDATE:

Metantei Conan has been one of the most successful anime in history having sold over 140 million copies worldwide making it the fifth best-selling manga series ever.
Since then, Metantei Conan has racked up numerous awards. In 2004, Metantei Conan was the second most broadcasted animation television series with 700+ episodes and ongoing.
Several adaptations were made in line with its successful run including a live-action drama which was scheduled for 13-episodes and 4 TV specials.
Over the course of time, Metantei Conan has released 19 movie films with the most recent “Lupin the 3rd vs. Detective Conan” movie, a collaborated work of respective anime groups.
