MEIKO (VOCALOID)

MEIKO is a generation 1 and the first Japanese female VOCALOID, developed by YAMAHA Corporation and distributed by Crypton Future Media. She was released in November 5, 2004.

Compared to her male counterpart, KAITO, who only sold over 500 units, she sold over 3,000 units which was considered as success at that time, minimum being 1,000 units. After MEIKO's success, Hatsune Miku (generation 2) became even more successful which made developing focus on producing more female VOCALOIDs rather than males.

After Hatsune Miku's success and releases of more VOCALOIDs, MEIKO's popularity sunk and she struggled to be on top list. Unlike her, KAITO's popularity rose after Hatsune Miku's success.

MEIKO's V3 update which was released in February 4, 2014, was developed and distributed by Crypton Future Media.
