General Information:
Lovely Complex is a manga created and illustrated by Aya Nakahara. It was published in Bessatsu Margaret starting in 2001 and ended in 2006. A live-action movie was released in 2006 and an anime adaptation aired in 2007. There was also a PlayStation 2 adventure game released in 2006.

Plot:

Lovely Complex is the story of a girl, Risa Koizumi, whose height is 172cm tall and a boy, Atsushi Otani, whose height is 156cm. Risa Koizumi is significantly taller than most Japanese girls and Atsushi Otani is shorter than most Japanese boys. The two are called the “All Hanshin Kyojin” named after a famous comedy duo that has the same height difference.

In summer school, a male student named Ryouji Suzuki becomes Risa’s classmate. She immediately falls for him because he’s taller than Risa. Atsushi also likes a girl about his height. They discover each other’s crush and put aside their squabbles to help each other impress their crushes. Their plans end in failure as their crushes end up in a relationship with each other. Through this ordeal, Risa and Otani become close friends. Risa eventually develops feelings for Otani only making her struggling love life even more complicated.
