Plot:
Have you ever had a dream, yet you cannot fulfill it?
Such is the story of Jirou Horikoshi, a boy who lives in a small town in 1918 Japan. His dream is becoming a pilot, but his pure sight makes it impossible to become real. After reading a magazine about aviation, he watches a dream with the Italian designer Caproni and realizes that he can design planes, if he cannot fly them. From that day on, Jirou continues to read aviation magazines and five years later he travels to Tokyo by train to study engineering. In the train he meets a girl named Naoko, with whom later falls in love. After successfully completing his studies, Jirou joins the aircraft division of a major Japanese engineering company, Mitsubishi, in 1927. He is successful and grows to become one of the world's most accomplished airplane designers.
Some historical events are present on this movie, such as the great Kanto earthquake of 1923.
Also, the story is based on the life Jirou Horikoshi(堀越 二郎), a japanese aircraft designer who is known to have desgined the fighter Mitsubishi A6M Zero during World War II.
Note:
It is told that this is the last movie directed by Hayao Miyazaki.
