Misato Katsuragi (葛城 ミサト?, "Katsuragi Misato") is the boss operations officer at NERV. Kotono Mitsuishi voices her in Japanese, and Allison Keith in English. In the series, she at first holds the rank of Captain, with a later advancement to Major; in the first new motion picture in the Rebuild of Evangelion venture, she holds the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and afterward Colonel in the second film. She is the field leader for the Eva pilots, issuing requests and giving fight procedures and also taking care of some bureaucratic matters. She is likewise Shinji and Asuka's watchman,; giving them a chance to live in her condo instead of have them live alone.

While she is proficient and tenacious in her obligations, she is a lazy pig and a boozer while taking a break. She is the main survivor of the Katsuragi Expedition, the exploratory study headed by her father which set off the Second Impact; the cross pendant she wears was given to her by her father just before his passing.
