Ken Kaneki is your average 18-year old college student who loves reading books. His rather ordinary life the day he met Rize Kamishiro, a girl she recently met, at a café he frequents. He was later rushed to the hospital in critical condition barely surviving an attack from Rize, who turns out to be a ghoul, before she was struck with a falling i-beam at a construction site. He is later transplanted with one of Rize’s organs after his organs were beyond recovery which transformed into a half-human and a half-ghoul. He struggles to keep his ghoul identity a secret, always fighting against his ghoul side while trying to continue to live like a normal human being. He now works at a local coffee shop, the Anteiku, while trying to learn the ways of being a ghoul whilst trying to keep his humanity in check.
