General Information

Infinite Stratos (Japanese: 〈インフィニット・ストラトス ) is a Japanese light novel series written by Izuru Yumizuru.
Infinite Stratos is illustrated by Okiura and CHOCO and is published by Media Factory and Overlap.
Infinite Stratos is a combination of science fiction, romance, comedy, mecha and a slight harem.
The manga adaptation of Infinite Stratos is illustrated by Kenji Akahoshi and published in Media Factory's Monthly Comic Alive as of May 2010.
As of July 2012, five volumes of Infinite Stratos has been published thus far.
The anime adaptation is produced by 8-bit Studios together with director Yasuhito Kikuchi which premiered on TBS, CBC, SUN and KBS networks on January 2011.
Infinite Stratos ended with 12 awe-inspiring action-packed episodes on March 2011.

Plot:
"In the not so distant future, a Japanese scientist has successfully engineered an armed powered exoskeleton called the “Infinite Stratos” (IS for short) which later became the mainstream of weapons, possessing technology and combat capabilities surpassing those of any other arms system.
Faced with such an overpowered weapon, nations from around the world enact the “Alaska Treaty” where it states that IS shall never be used in military combat and that the existing IS technology should be equally distributed to all nations so as to prevent any one nation from dominating the others.
Unfortunately for the men, only women can operate an IS which led to the shift of power balance where women now dominate the society.
Ten years have passed since the creation of IS and the world has now entered an era of peace.
Ichika Orimura, a 15-year old Japanese student, accidentally touches an IS which later revealed his rather unique innate ability to operate an IS.
Being the only man who is ever able to operate an IS, he is later forced to attend the prestigious Infinite Stratos Academy, an elite multicultural academy where IS pilots from around the world train.
Thus begins Ichika’s busy yet interesting high school life sorrounded by beautiful girls training to be IS pilots."

UPDATE:

Following its OVA (original video animation) release back December 2011, 8-bit Studios have been working hand-in-hand with director Yasuhito Kikuchi on a sequel to the original series.
Infinite Stratos 2 premiered on several TV networks including TBS, MBS, SUN and KBS on October 2013.
Infinite Stratos 2 ended on December of that year with 12 adrenaline-packed episodes.
Two more OVAs were released entitled the “The Long Vacation Edition” and “World Purge-hen” accordingly.

Infinite Stratos is one of the more successful mecha anime shows which is quite similar to both concept and theme when compared to anime shows like Vandread, Isekai no Seikishi Monogatari, Strike Witches, Freezing and last but not least Tenchi Muyo.
