General Information

Digimon Adventure (Japanese: デジモンアドベンチャー) is the very first of widely popular Digimon franchise that started it all.
Digimon Adventure is a Japanese action and adventure anime series created by Akiyoshi Hongo and produced by Toei Animation.
Digimon Adventure was directed by Hiroyuki Kakudo, more known as the man who brought us Yu-Gi-Oh!, Zatch Bell and Dragon Ball GT.
Saban Entertainment licensed Digimon Adventure which was aired on Network Ten, Fox Kids, ABC Family, Nicktoons and Toon Disney.
Digimon Adventure originally debuted on Fuji TV and Spacetoon back on March 1999.
Digimon Adventure ended its full run on March 2000 with 54 fun-filled adventure-packed episodes.

Plot:

In Digimon Adventure, seven kids (Taichi Kamiya, Matt Ishida, Sora Takenouchi, Koushiro Izumi, Mimi Tachikawa, Joe Kido and Takeru Takaishi) at a Summer Camp find themselves in an incospicious situation where it suddenly began snowing.
Wondering to themselves how it’s possible that it’s snowing in the middle of summer, each kid receives a peculiarly small gadget and is instantly warped through a portal.
They later find themselves in the mysterious digital dimension called the “Digital World” where digital monsters call it home.

Each one manages to befriend a digimon to help keep them from harm’s way.
When faced with a certain threat, the children soon discover that they are able to help their digimon partners digitally evolve into their stronger and powerful forms with the help of their unusually obtained devices (later known as the digivices).
The battle between good and evil begins anew as the seven “chosen” children protect the Digital World from evil Digimons like Devimon or Vamdemon.

Characters:

Tai Kamiya is the leader of original DigiDestined. He partners up with reptile digimon Agumon who later evolves into Greymon.

Matt Ishida is the “born rebel” who prefers to do things his own way. He partners up with the lizard-like Gabumon who later evolves into Garurumon.

Sora Takenouchi is the somewhat tomboyish member of the DigiDestined. Sora partners up with bird-like Biyomon who later evolves into Nyokimon.

Izzy Izumi is the computer expert in the group. He partners up with the ladybug-like Tentomon and later evolves into Kabuterimon.

Mimi Tachikawa is the blunt and outspoken memdber of the DigiDestined. She partners up with plant-type digimon Palmon who is able to later evolve into Tanemon.

Joe Kido was one of the members of the DigiDestined. He partners up with seal-like Gomamon and later is able to evolve into Bukamon.

Takeru Takaishi is the gentle, sweet-natured and generous member of the DigiDestined. He partners up with Patamon who later proves to be instrumental in their fights when he evolves into the all-powerful Angemon.

Kari Kamiya is the eight DigiDestined child who didn’t actually attend the summer camp with the others back when they were transported into the
Digital World. She partners up with the exalted beast digimon Gatomon who later evolves into Salamon.

Update:

Toei Animation has since then produced several anime films which served as sequels to the original Digimon series.
Mamoru Hosoda directed both the first two animated films entitled “Our War Game” and “Digimon: The Movie” which premiered on March and October 2000 accordingly.
Toei Animation also worked with Hiroyuki Kakudou on the second season of Digimon Adventure which was scheduled for 50 exciting episodes.

It might come off as a shock, but there are quite a number of anime shows that is closely similar to Digimon Adventure including Pokemon, Monster Rancher, Element Hunters, Kiba, Angelic Layer, Medabots, Blue Dragon and many many more.
