Devil May Cry is a series of five hack and slash video games set in the modern day.
The series was developed by Capcom and created by Hideki Kamiya.
Originally intended to be a sequel in Capcom's Resident Evil series, Devil May Cry was such a radical departure from the series' style that it was developed into a new property entirely.
The series centers on main character Dante whose goal is avenging his mother's murder by exterminating demons.
The gameplay consists of heavy combat scenes in which the player must attempt to extend long chains of attacks while avoiding damage in order to exhibit stylized combat; this element along with time and amount of items collected and used are taken under consideration when grading the player's performance.
Devil May Cry was directed by Shin Itagaki by Madhouse Studios and premiered on WOWOW channel on June 2007.
Devil May Cry ended with 12 bone-gritting and action-packed episodes.
PLOT:
Devil May Cry: The Animated Series is set sometime between the first Devil May Cry and Devil May Cry 4.
It follows the demon hunter Dante, a half-demon, half-human, running his very own devil-hunting business whilst struggling to pay off his amassing financial debt.
He takes on odd jobs where he can put his abilities to good use: hunting and killing demon-related problems.
Agent Morrison drops in from time to time with a case for Dante; one in particular is where he met Patty Lowell, a young orphan girl who he saved in one of his cases.
He carries with him his trusty sword, Rebellion and his twin pistol guns, Ebony and Ivory, on his missions.
Together with Patty, they take on one demon at a time, maintaining the peace and hoping to one day pay off his debts.
CHARACTERS:
Dante is the half-demon, half-human demon hunter who owns his very own demon hunting business, Devil May Cry. He is actually the son of Sparda, the Legendary Dark Knight. He takes on odd jobs, mostly supernatural in nature, and diligently finishes it even to a point where he gains a reputation of infallibility. He is known for his witty and **y banter on the job. His weapons of choice are a pair of .45 caliber pistol guns called Ebony (black) and Ivory (silver). He also carries with him his trusty sentient sword, the Rebellion, which he unusually stores in a guitar case. He oftentimes leaves a trail of destruction in his path where he usually gets a bill from his employers for all the destruction he has caused instead of being paid for his services.
Trish is a demon, who coincidentally looks just like Dante’s mother. She is actually by Lord Mundus with the ability to control electricity. Being a demon, she also has superhuman strength and unbelievable quick regenerative powers. She later joins Dante after defeating Mundus but left as quickly due to a conflict of interests. She now roams from place to place as a freelance hunter, helping people in need.
Patty Lowell is the young orphan girl who Dante met on his first case. She supposedly came into a large inheritance which turned out to be a scam. It was later revealed that she is actually a descendant of a powerful magician who sealed the devil Abigail. Patty loves cute things and tends to decorate Dante’s otherwise gloomy office with ribbons and plush toys. She spends most of her time with Dante, accompanying him on his cases.
UPDATE:
The series has been a success with the first three games selling multiple million copies and being awarded the "Platinum Title" award by Capcom.
The success of the video game series has led to the creation of comic books, novelizations, an anime series, guides, collectibles, publications, and a variety of action figures.
