General Information
Cyborg 009 is a manga created and illustrated by Shotaro Ishinomori. It was published in many magazines including Shojo Comic, Shonen Big Comic, COM, Weekly Shonen Magazine, Monthly Shonen King, Monthly Comic Nora, Weekly Shonen Sunday and Monthly Shonen Jump. The conclusion of the series was illustrated by Masato Hayase based on Ishinomori’s notes and sketches collected by his son. The anime adaptation aired on April 5, 1969 and ended on September 27, 1968. It air on Nihon Educational Television (now TV Asahi), was directed by Yugo Serikawa and produced by Toei Animation. The second anime series aired on TV Asahi starting March 6, 1979 to March 25, 1980, was produced by Toei Animation and Sunrise and was directed by Ryosuke Takahashi. The most recent anime series air on TV Tokyo starting October 14, 2001 and ended on October 13, 2002.
Plot:
"Nine ordinary people are kidnapped by an evil organization, Black Ghost. Black Ghost seeks to create advanced weaponry to sell to warlords as well as attempt to start the next world war to bring in more customers. Black Ghost experiments on these nine people giving them special abilities by either enhancing their features or giving them built in weaponry turning them into cyborgs.
When Black Ghost was destroyed, the cyborgs escaped. Since then, they’ve been battling anything threatening the world from ancient civilizations, rampaging robots, other cyborgs and mad scientists."
