General Information:

Adventure Time (shortened version of Adventure Time with Finn & Jake) is an American comedy and action-adventure animated television series created by Pendleton Ward together with Frederator Studios and Cartoon Network Studios.
Adventure Time was originally introduced as a “short” produced for Nicktoons and Frederator Studios.
After Adventure Time became a viral hit and due to popular demand, Cartoon Network picked it up for a full-length television series.
Adventure Time is heavily inspired by the sensationally popular fantasy role-playing video game [Dungeons & Dragons].


Adventure Time officially premiered on Cartoon Network on April 2010.
Each episode of Adventure Time is only for about eleven minutes, hence the Studios has decided to air Adventure Time in pairs of episodes in order to fill the half-hour program time slot.
Adventure Time has already aired 6 seasons which sums up to a grand total of 182 episodes with its most recent episode aired on January 2015.

Plot:

The series follows the quirky and other worldly adventures of 12-year old Finn and his adoptive brother and best friend Jake the Dog, who turns out to have peculiar magic powers which can change his shape, grow or even shrink his size at will.
Finn, the fiery little kid with rather strong morals, and Jake, his rather frequently unreliable confidant and assistant, protect the citizens of the post-apocalyptic Land of Ooo.


He and his buddy Jake roam the lands, righting the wrongs and battling evil from foes of various shapes and sizes.
The menacing but largely misunderstood wizard, the Ice King, is in search of a wife and has decided that Princess Bubblegum would be the perfect candidate, although she doesn’t want to marry him.
It now falls in the hands of Finn and Jake, together with Lady Raincorn (a cross between a unicorn and a rainbow) to do their best to keep the peace and protect Princess Bubblegum.



Characters:

Finn the Human is the 15-year old boy in a post-apocalyptic world who loves nothing more than adventures and saving the day, rescuing damsels in distress or helping people in need. Considering himself as the hero in the story, he swore long ago to himself that he would depart on an adventure, seeing the world as it is and saving everyone.


Jake the Dog is the 28-year old Finn’s adoptive brother and consequently his best friend. Back in the day, Joshua, Finn and Jake’s father, was bitten by some sort of shape-shifting creature. Infected by the mysterious creature’s venom, Jake was subsequently birthed with the uncanny ability to stretch or shrink any part of his body at will. Jake can go overly gigantic or incredibly small.

Update:

Since its big debut, Adventure Time has vastly amassed a steadily growing fan base.
Eric John from Indiewire has this to say: “Adventure Time has started to look like one of the biggest television phenomenas of the decade”.
KaBOOM! Studios has announced on a Comic Convention that they will be working on an Adventure Time comic book series which took launch on February 2012.
Including the ongoing comic book line, several spin-off miniseries were launched.


Wayforward Technologies has been working on a video games based on the series Adventure Time for the Nintendo 3DS which released last November 2012.
Several video games followed in its footsteps including the recently launched MOBA Game: Adventure Time: Battle Party which is available on the official Cartoon Network website.


Anime shows that are in a way similar to Adventure Time would include [Sket Dance], [Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt] and the weirdly popular [Aqua Teen Hunger Force]. [Jailtime] might also be a good alternative, quite similar with Adventure Time, but a lot funnier.
