is this told in the games? if so,when?

It's implied when you visit N's room, and when you talk to the pair of ladies from Team Plasma; both are near the end of the game, if I remember correctly. They never really outwardly spell out N's past, and these specific events aren't shown; it's just an interpretation from the artist.
