Sadly I have to tell that while they're definitely good looking together, this is probably the worst FF pairing ever after Vaan and Panelo from FFXII. And I'm actually sad while saying this because I've always loved and shipped all FF canon pairings (Cloud x Tifa, Squall x Rinoa, Tidus x Yuna) with passion, but this ship here totally lacks substance and again passion. Luna could've been just Noct's guardian or childhood friend and the story and their relationship would't have changed much. In game they almost don't interact at all if not in dreams/allucination scenes, a single childhood flashback, through their dogs and brief moments where they look at each other from afar and where Luna protects Noct while he's passed out. But they're all pretty short and btw their behavior toward each other is not strictly romantic, if we weren't told they were engaged you could've just guessed they deeply cared about each other but nothing that makes you think they're definitely an item like the other FF ships where the romance vibes where too heavy to be ignored. Not the best way to handle their "love story" given it's one of the main focuses of the game and yet is portrayed as a side plot. A bunch of people noticed that, not just me and you get there's something wrong in a canon relationship when another one in a few days of built (Ulryc and Luna) managed to have much more substance and impact on the public than the so called "official one" in twelve years.

Btw the most important reason why I dislike this pairing is that reminds me too much of Ciel and Lizzie from Kuroshitsuji (minus the one sided thing and the abuse). Luna's only purpose in life is to marry and watch over Noctis and she accepts and never manages to escape this fate. She has no dreams or personal ambitions that are not strictly related to Noctis while all other FF heroines were independant characters whose life didn't focus solely on their love interests. They also had life goals that had nothing to do with their loved ones.
This common pattern (we too often find in anime and manga as well) of having the life of a female character totally focused on the man they love and because of that their individuality, personality and independance pushed aside, always ****ed me off to no end. Sexism at its finest.

Nothing bad to say about the art if not masterpiece.

^ I love the game too, I never said the game ****s. FFXV is a good game with MANY faults and this ship is one of them. FF games always had top quality romance, but here the romance is an epic fail, unfortunately. These two just don't fit together, period.

They had top quality romance in their games?

^ Yes, every single FF (minus FFXII and FFXIII trylogy but because the whole games were WAY inferior to their predecessors, it wasn't just the romance being bad) had quality romance, deep, emotional, passionate and last but not least properly developed. In FFXV Noctis and Luna's relationship is supposed to be one of the main focuses of the plot, yet is portrayed as a subplot. Their love story is bland, insipid, void as in they barely interact throughout the whole story. Luna's older than him and Noctis is very immature before the time skip. She looks more like an older sister figure than a girlfriend. Basically they just don't fit. There was more passion and chemistry between Noctis and cup noodles than between him and Luna tbh.

Putting FFXV aside how are the examples you gave in the first comment top quality? I could never really feel any romance in their games just only onesided feelings or fan shipped into existence.

^ Pfff what games were you playing exactly? xD Squall x Rinoa, Gidan x Garnet and Tidus x Yuna would be one sided romance now? Do you even remember what happened in the games or were you playing a different version that existed just in your head? They're all very canon and mutual, you can find this info everywhere, what are you even talking about? xD You can like Noctis x Luna all you want but stop embarassing yourself like that, those ships are canon, whether you like it or not. It's common knowledge.

Probably because of the Japanese way of presenting things the sacrifice of raw emotion for a beautiful placement of characters, stats, and the image of character. Some games I can really feel the bond between characters such as one of comrades or brotherly love. But romance if felt was clumsily done or just thrown in there without too much of thought. FFX was clumsy yes but rightfully so with Yuna.

^ Well but this is a matter of tastes then, not actual facts. I highly dislike Noctis x Luna (I think Ulryc x Luna brought way more emotions to the plot) but it's not that I go around saying they're not canon or that Luna's love was onesided because that's simply ridiculous. No one forces us to like stuff, but we should always stay objective about what's canon and what's not.

I don't think that's it at all. The lack of romantic connection is because both were focused on "duty" and not romance, more so than anything else. Unlike other Final Fantasy stories, the two didn't get to be with each other frequently and communicated through her familiars. Not only that, if she were completely codependent as you portray her to be, she would've never done her duty to it's fullest. She died for it and while I'm not really fond of Final Fantasy romances in general, I can't really agree with it being "bad" based off those.

Tifa and Cloud? It felt more like a onesided obsession than actual love.
Yuna and Tidus? It was never an actual reality, it was fake memories.
Only one I do like is Rinoa and Squall. Which is another tragedy end.

Final Fantasy loves just aren't meant to be admirable depictions.
