I'm so happy Corrin made it in

Yeah just we need, another Robin and the 6th Fire Emblem representative. Bringing back Roy was a good choice but the FE gravy train should've ended there since, oh I don't know, the DLC campaign has ended and they could've used Corrins spot for the return of Snake, Wolf or any other new character from other franchises. I'm a fan of the FE series but this was such a waste (not that the unlockable Lucina was any better).

Yeah all those representatives when Pokemon also has 6 and Mario has 10+ yet I don't see anyone complain about that. Also how the frick frack is Corrin anything like Robin? Like, at all? Their completely different appearance-wise AND play style-wise. And I'd rather have Corrin than Marth-with-fire a.k.a. Roy. Wolf and Snake are okay I guess but I like Corrin and Bayonetta much better.

(Sorry for this long rant but...)
Mario has 7. DK, Diddy, Wario and Yoshi are associated from their respective universes and people really like Pokemon. Also alot of people are upset over this decision. They like me feel that other franchises should have gotten a shot on the ballot, and are viewing Corrin in particular as just a product placement for FE Fates which will be released in the West the same time as his DLC launch (the same thing as Roy in Melee, although he was an unlocakable and his game was Japan only making it not a big deal). I only called him another Robin because it's a similar concept, they're both from FE, are your main avatar from their respective games, and have the whole "you can play as female __ too!" in their reveal videos.
When Melee was released I was still living overseas, and at that time Marth and Roy were from games unreleased in the West and it was exciting to see people became so interested in FE. Now that I'm back in America I truly understand that feeling of wow something new that hasn't released here yet. The problem is Corrin's FE debut was about 5 months for Japan. It feels unlikely he was chosen due to popularity and it isn't fair to other fighters fans voted for. I understand it's DLC and I don't have to buy him (unless I enjoy Fates when it does release) but unless Nintendo isn't joking these are the last fighters for this installment of Smash, and it worries me. Since Melee, smash games have released every 6 years and Sakurai might retire due to the stress these games caused him. So all I ask is why a give the last spot to a practically unknown character most fans probably didn't asked for? Or to honestly put it, if you're a fan from the west that's so immersed with the FE franchise and only voted for him simply because he's a FE character despite being unreleased and therefore not being able to relate to the character at all...that's absurd.
(Also I love Mr.Kozaki's illustrations/I'm done now)

Hmm. Those are some good points. But I recall that FE is super popular in Japan. So that could be a reason why Corrin made the cut. And Awakening was incredibly popular in both Japan AND America, and it essentially saved the series, which gave it a bigger following worldwide, thus making people more excited for Fates, and thus giving THAT a bigger following as well. Hell, the pre-orders for it in America sold out almost immediately, that's how anticipated it is in America. So I do think Corrin is "popular" enough for Smash. Certainly more so than Wolf. I say we should just be happy that Corrin is original in gameplay and personality and appearance. Their concept may be similar to Robin's but that's about the only similarities. In fact they also barely use their sword in comparison to their dragon powers, so they're not just "another sword-user".
