^ on the games yes but on the game the player choose the person the girl will end up with
and when they go adapted into anime they keep 'neutral' to make sure that no one will get sad 'because she chooses this guy and not that guy'
and NO, NOT ALL OF THEN ARE LIKE THIS JFC

LOL, I love how people hate on the heroines because they get in the way of their Yaoi pairings. These girls are all nice people, and well... sorry if they're nice people. :/

^ No, that's not true .__. why do you think that all the fujoshi are girls haters ? xD Plus in harem anime like them there are no yaoi pairings because all the boys are all over the girl and barely interact with each others xD
People hate them because they found them annoying, fujoshi or not xD

some of the heroines are not well liked because of their personality LOL
i like the ones that actually do something and is not all useless. like Chizuru from Hakuouki makes me want to punch myself in the face.

    here we go again *sighs*
personality shy? hardworking? kind? girly? i know that the cultural difference makes you think be like this is bad but still don't justify that much
Chizuru is not useless, she is able to defend herself, she fight together with Okita on his route, she helps ppl harmed in Ikedaia in Sano's route, she demonstrated mental strength and sensibility even on the middle of a war, she try her best everything she can do

They r otome games HEROINES.. because of them u get to listen to the guys goody goody talk and happy endings.. and the producers left it unfinished for the pairing with the heroines because u guys will get free to fantasize BL and anything u want..so i think u should say thanks to them instead of blaming..

@flavia-chan. stupid reactions from stupid kids? Jokes on you dear. People have different tastes, there's no need to hate on them just because they don't share your tastes. If they find them annoying that's their problem.

Anyway, I don't find all harem heroines annoying (Ouran highschool) But in general, even though they have different backgrounds, stories, settings etc. the majority of 'heroines' can easily be thrown together into one archetype, which would be the wish-fulfillment mary sue. (surrounded by gary stus)

As a personal preference I'm turned off by the naive idealistic side so many of them share. Not enough of them have true flaws either (ex: klutz. but she screws up so adorably and gives the guys a chance to help her. *eyeroll*)

PSA that Bambi/TMGS3 heroine actually has 2 possibly personalities with one being the queenly/domineering + teasing + mildly manipulative Little Devil personality. Pls don't rope my queen in with the otoge generics :>

But yeah, Chizuru was so not my cup of tea. The whole game stresses how she can handle a sword well but when the heck does she ever save herself. Otomate pls.

The personality of the Heroine in Amnesia varies some depending on the route you take (in the game anyway, idk about the anime).

Then again I don't mind that the heroines in the reverse Harems don't usually have interesting personalities as the problem isn't restricted to just the Heroines. I can count on one hand the number of heroes in Harem animes that didn't annoy the hell outta me. In fact atm the only one that comes to mind is Ryuuji from Toradora.

And even Ryuuji's type is getting old since it worked so well that they started repeating it (Kodaka from Haganai, Hachiman from Ore Ga Iru, and Yamada from the 7 Witches).

If you think about it's probably kind of difficult to give the Heros/Heroines in these types of games/animes a distinctive personality because most of the personality is used on the characters around them rather than the Hero/Heroine itself. In theses types of games/animes you are supposed to be enjoying the other characters, not the Hero/Heroine.

    >> But in general, even though they have different backgrounds, stories, settings etc. the majority of 'heroines' can easily be thrown together into one archetype, which would be the wish-fulfillment mary sue

Second this. The main thing with heroines' personalities is that more often than not they don't have one... What irritates me especially is that their part in the dialogues often mostly consists of Errr/Eh/Ah etc.
However, we should not forget that they were created like empty shells to be able to embody any girl with any personality and to become their representative in the game. A means via which a player can experience the game's story. If they had distinct personalities a lot of people wouldn't be able to relate to them. Just because people are so different and MC is one for all...
I guess that's where tension emerges when games are made into anime. You're not a part of the story filling the heroine with you're own personality anymore, you're a spectator and want to see vivid characters, so MCs' bleakness becomes rather problematic.
Again, we should not forget about national stereotypes. I am not saying being kind, shy, hardworking etc is a bad thing, the problem is that these features totally prevail in MCs leaving no space for anything else and thus making them so alike regardless of the titles. It's like to make them fit into that ideal is more important than giving them real, tangible although probably flawed traits...

But the games are not a place for 'real feel' seekers. They are rather a small, sweet, somewhat simplistic worlds to help us relax and repose from the imperfections of the reality. And a perfect-for-all MC is simply impossible to create. However, they might become really better would they have more intelligent talk and be they less dependent on the others.
And here we kind of return to the beginning of the discussion B-)
