Yu-Gi-Oh! Arc-V (アーク・ファイブ) is a Japanese anime series produced by Nihon Ad Systems and Studio Gallop. Yu-Gi-Oh! Arc-V is the fourth main spin-off series in the big hit Yu-Gi-Oh! franchise made popular way back in 1996. Yu-Gi-Oh! Arc-V is directed by Katsumi Ono and written by Kamishiro Tsutomu. It wasn’t long after its big debut that 4K Media Inc. licensed the show for a North American release. Yu-Gi-Oh! Arc-V started broadcasting on April 2014 and is still an ongoing series. As of to date, there have been 38 episodes of Yu-Gi-Oh! Arc-V released thus far.
Yu-Gi-Oh! Arc-V is set in the near future on Miami City on the coast of Japan, prior to the events of Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal.
Thanks to the Leo Corporation and their advancements in Solid Vision, the holographic system that gives life to Duel Monsters card game, players are now able to interact directly with Duel Monsters in their environments.
This advancement in technology gave birth to challenging Action Duels, where duelists may traverse environments in search of action cards which they can use in battle. Yu-Gi-Oh! Arc-V follows 14-year old Yuuya Sakaki, as he tries to escape from the harsh reality he was born with by smiling.
Yuuya is a second year middle school student of Miami City’s You Show Duel School, aiming to become an “entertainment” duelist just like his father, who apparently disappeared three years ago just before a very important duel.
Since then, he has followed his father’s footsteps hoping to redeem his reputation by becoming a world-renowned professional duelist.
One thing leads to the next, next thing he knows, Yuuya finds himself fighting in an exhibition match against the current champion of the Pro Duel World.
Amidst the chaos during the duel, Yuuya awakens a new power from his pendant, later known to be as “Pendulum Summoning”.
As Yuuya strives to master the art of Pendulum Summoning, he and his friends become involved in a great mystery taking place within the city.
Yuuya Sakaki is the 14-year old student of You Show Duel School. Inspired by his father, he aims to become the greatest Entertainment Duelist, a special type of professional duelist, and bring smiles to everyone with his Action Duels. Due to his rather sudden disappearance three years ago, Yuuya seeks to redeem his father’s reputation and solve the mystery of his father’s disappearance. Yuuya is the fun-loving, energetic and cheerful type who loves to entertain people. He manages to awaken a new power within himself called the “Pendulum Summoning”, and aims to master it in hopes that it will help him achieve his goals. He uses the Performapal Deck and his key card is the Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon.
Reiji Akaba is current head of the Leo Corporation, the leading company when it comes to advanced technology like the Solid Vision. True to his appearance, Reiji is calm, collected and quite the serious type. He uses the DD Deck which is a combination of Fusion, Synchro and XYZ Summoning. He later adapts his very own Pendulum Deck after studying Yuuya.
Yuzu Hiiragi is Yuuya’s closest friend and a fellow classmate at You Show Duel School. She is the perfect example of a tsundere personality: initially cold and hostile towards others that eventually warms up to them overtime. She actually has feelings for Yuuya which she has a hard time admitting to herself. She uses the Melodius Deck and her key card is the Fantasia Flower Saint Bloom Diva.
Noboru Gongenzaka is Yuuya’s oldest childhood friend. His family owns a dojo. Back when they were kids, he is always the one trying to defend Yuuya from bullying. He uses a Super Heavy Samurai Deck. He later adapts Synchro Summoning which he learned for Yaiba.
Yu-Gi-Oh! Arc-V introduces a brand new concept with its very own gameplay elements to the Yu-Gi-Oh trading card game. Yu-Gi-Oh! Arc-V introduces Pendulum Monsters into the game which uses scales, when used properly on the appropriate Pendulum Zones, allows players to simultaneously summon multiple monsters at once.
