Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D’s is the second main spin-off anime series of the Yu-Gi-Oh franchise.
Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D’s is a mixture of action, adventure, science, fantasy, dystopian and even racing themes.
Naoyuki Kageyama wrote the script for Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D’s and Katsumi Ono directed the show.
Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D’s is produced by Studio Gallop which was later licensed by 4Kids Entertainment and Konami.
Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D’s premiered on TV Tokyo from April 2008.
Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D’s ended with a whooping 154 episodes last March 2011.
Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D’s is set in the not too distant future, several years after the exploits of Yugi Mutou wherein Domino City has just became a shadow of its former self: the Neo Domino City.
This newer and more evolved city is the largest in the world where the divide between the rich and the poor grows ever stronger and bridging that gap proves to be rather difficult than what it seemed.
Fudou Yusei, an aspiring duelist hoping to make it big in the duel world, has just recently built a “D-Wheel” which is newest form of playing the ever popular Duel Monsters card game.
He manages to build his own Duel Runner where its shockingly stolen from him by his most trusted friend, Jack Atlas, along ith his most precious card, the Stardust Dragon.
Years have passed since then and Fudou manages to build a new deck in hopes of winning back his stolen Stardust Dragon from Jack.
Since then, Jack has managed to make a name for himself and the infamous Red Dragon Archfiend.
After a grueling struggle, Fudou manages to land a rematch with Jack in a Turbo Duel where Fudou manages to regain control of the Stardust Dragon.
As the Stardust Dragon and Red Dragon Archfiend battle each other, a mysterious third dragon appears on the battlefield and abruptly ends the fight.
Fudou is later approached by Rex Godwin, the director of Neo Domino City who later reveals to him a thousand year old secret about the “People of the Stars”, “The Crimson Dragon” and the infallible “Signers”, a mysterious bunch of people identified by a red birthmark on their arm.
It was also revealed that Goodwin, Jack and he, belong to these so-called “Signers” and that they are destined to face the “Dark Signers”.
From here on, Fudou and his friends are thrown into a world of Darkness, from which they must duel their way out and attempt to save the world from the destructive forces that soon appear.
Yusei Fudou is the young protagonist of the series who grew up in Satellite. After having his Stardust Dragon robbed from him by his best friend, he travels to Neo Domino City to reclaim it only to find out he belongs to an elite group called the “Signers” and bears the mark of Crimson Dragon. As a duelist, he is the cool, calm and collected type who believes in every card no matter how useless it may appear to be. He uses a Junk Deck, an unusual type of deck that focuses on managing small monsters of varying levels to summon more powerful Synchro monsters. His key card is the Stardust Dragon which later evolves into the Majestic Star Dragon and the Shooting Star Dragon.
Jack Atlas has made a name for himself as the “Master of Faster” who was once Yusei’s best friend. He was first introduced as very arrogant and cruel until the day he lost to Yusei. He later falls in love with Carly. He utilizes a Power Deck which focuses on quickly summoning ultra powerful monsters to obliterate his opponents. His key card is the Red Dragon Archefiend which is later upgraded into the Majestic Red Dragon.
Akiza Izinski was first introduced doubling as an antagonist.She appeared rather cold and pathologically sadomasochistic girl with the nunusual psychic ability to brivng monsters and magic to life. She is later known as the “Black Rose” because of her abilities. She uses a variety of Plant Type Monsters and holds the “Black Rose Dragon”.
Masahiro Hikokubo worked on manga adaptation of Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D’s which is illustrated by Masashi Satou. Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D’s is published in Shueisha’s V Jump and Shonen Jump magazine since August 2009. The manga is still ongoing as of today and has published 8 volumes since then.
