Futari wa Precure (Japanese: ふたりはプリキュア lit. Together, We are Pretty Cure) is a Japanese magical girl action anime series produced by Toei Animation.
Futari wa Precure was the very first series of the widely popular Pretty Cure metaseries created by none other than the man who started it all, Izumi Todo.
Futari wa Precure was licensed by Blue Water Studios, Funimation and Odex for a North American release which premiered on YTV, Pop Girl and Crunchyroll.
Futari wa Precure made its grand debut back on TV Asahi on February 2004.
After 49 light-hearted episodes, Futari wa Precure ended on January 2005.
Futari wa Precure follows two young girls who couldn’t be more different from one another: Nagisa Misumi and Honoka Yukishiro.
Nagisa is the sporty athletic type whilst Honoka is the bookish nerdy type, and while they do attend the same school, they have little in common until one day, a shower of shooting stars brings two unlikely visitors into their lives.
Mipple and Mapple are refugees from the Garden of Light who has recently been overrun by the Darkness.
The Dark Zone, a dimension of evil, is quickly encroaching on Earth and it is now up to Nagisa and Honoka to put their differences aside and fight together as the Pretty Cures against the massive forces of the Dark Zone.
Mipple and Mapple gives them the power to transform into the emissaries of light: Cure Black and Cure White.
Together, they must search for the elusive Prism Stones and restore the Garden of Light before it is too late.
They are later granted the Rainbow Bracelets by the Prince of the Garden of Light in hopes of defeating the all-powerful Dark King.
Nagisa and Honoka, once two different girls becomes Cure Black and Cure White, magical defenders of the light – together, they are the Pretty Cures.
Nagisa Misumi is the strong-willed second year student of Private Verone Academy. She is quite the sporty and athletic type and is the ace of the school’s lacrosse team. She transforms into Cure Black and represents strength and passion.
Honoka Yukishiro is the shy and quiet classmate of Nagisa in junior high. She is quite the nerdy type who later earned the reputation as the “Queen of Knowledge” for her vast knowledge in varied subjects. She transforms into Cure White and represents swift and graceful.
Futari wa Precure is one of the many series of the widely popular Pretty Cure franchise.
As of to date, 11 Pretty Cure series has been made with its most recent one on the way, Go! Princess Cure.
A sequel to the original series entitled Futari wa Precure Max Heart started broadcasting on February 2005 which premiered on ANN.
Futari wa Precure Max Heart was scheduled for 47 episodes which ended on January 2006.
Two animated films of the series was produced by Toei Animation and directed by Atsuji Shimizu.
Several games have also been made across several gaming platforms.
