Blade of the Immortal is a manga created by Hiroaki Samura and published in Afternoon starting June 25th, 1993 and ended December 25th, 2012. An anime adaptation was made by studio Bee Train and Production I.G, directed by Koichi Mashimo, produced by Noboru Yamada, Katsushi Morishita, Tetsuya Kinoshita and Takuya Matsushita and written by Kenichi Kanemaki. It aired in AT-X channel starting July 14, 2008 and ended December 29, 2008.
Blade of the Immortal Plot:
Blade of the Immortal’s story revolves around Manji, an extremely skilled samurai who cannot be killed by a wound except for a rare poison. An 800 year old nun, Yaobikuni, turns Manji into an immortal. He has killed hundreds of samurai including his brother-in-law. After his sister’s death, he embarks on a quest to end his immortality. He makes it his goal to kill 1000 evil men and he is kept alive by “sacred bloodworms” which sacrifice themselves to seal wounds.
He meets Asano Rin and helps her avenge her parent’s deaths caused by Anotsu Kagehisa, a master swordsman. Anotsu Kagehisa wishes to recruit powerful fighters and destroy every other dojo.
Blade of the Immortal Characters:
Manji (Character) – Manji is usually a carefree samurai who has great swordsman skill. He has one advantage over most other fighters, he cannot be taken down because he has “bloodworms” that seals and heals and wound.
Rin Asano – Rin became the last heir to her father’s dojo after the Itto-ryu killed her parents. She appears childish but grows up over the course of the series.
Yaobikuni – Yaobikuni is an 800 year old nun who is immortal because of “blood worms”. She feeds them to Manji to keep him immortal as well.
Kagehisa Anotsu – Kagehisa Anotsu is the young leader of the Itto-ryu. He may be cold blooded but allows Rin live after she assaults him. His goal is to lead a dojo where superior skills uphold all.
